There are always exceptions. Those who didn't take my bait and post here says much more.

I'll leave it at THAT!

And just because I have a wonky eye doesn't mean you have to call me names.

BTW, all my software in my studio is legit. I use Ubuntu Studio at home.

Cheers :)

You're funny.

So you guys know what your doing, and I have no idea where to post this so I'll ask you.

I'm a n00b to digital, I've got protools and a vst plug-in synth track,
I made a loop in Maschine, and it could just be my ears,
but when I hit play with both running now,
it sounds like the maschine is struggling to
hit all the notes, and perhaps the timing is a bit unsteady.

I may be running into some CPU limits. How to you get around this?

Do you print one instrument as you are done with it and keep fewer
virtual instruments running at once, or is this a problem that shouldn't
be happening and I just need to figure out what is causing it?

And, oh yeah, what is the correct term for what is happening here
so I can do a proper search?

Sorry for the hijack.

i'll put my hands up and say, in the past, i have used software that i've "borrowed" off the internet :( however, i'm proud to say i've been clean of cracked software for 8 years now. it has been a hard journey but with the support of my friends, family, and some hard work i have managed to get clean and stay clean. at the height of my addiction i was spending 8 to 10 hours a day on torrent sites; i wouldn't eat, i stopped socialising with my friends incase a new piece of software finished downloading, i hung out with some dodgy looking guys swapping CDR's, and spent all my time sat at my computer with my 1000's of bits of cracked software thinking "mwahahahaha i can now rule the world with my army of compressors, eq's, all the DAW's, and the worlds biggest collection of samples ever."

looking back i was such a fool. i have learned from my mistakes and now have all my software legitimately. i now think of it like this; i wouldn't walk into a shop a steal an LA3, so why should i go on the internet and steal an LA3 plugin?

You should just post this in the Newb's section. It'll better serve people with the same question rather buried in another thread.

That's a great idea, thanks, I couldn't think of it.

I wanted to get back into recording a few years ago
and a friend gave me Sonar 4 that he had downloaded
from Torrent.

I never loaded it into my computer,
seemed kind of hinky to me,
but it did get me inspired to do my homework
and give HR another try.

Thank you for your honesty.

When you playback maschine its as a vst within your daw?

Drag the midi from maschine into the track and then make sure maschine has a blank pattern showing

Good for you

I learned a long time ago if you work for it, you learn it....i dont have anything against anyone doing anything, none of my business, but for me if it doesnt cost me something i dont invest in it...a personality trait i guess

I cleaned houses and filled coal cellars for free piano lessons as a kid (no joke) im glad i did now, i love music....man that should be filmed in black and white with Dvorak's Symphony No. 9 playing in the background...<wipes tear>

I've never used any cracked software.
And I quit downloading music illegally 3 years ago :D

BUT... I have a confession to make.
I've bought educational versions of programs through college pals :p
And now that I know certain websites didn't check for education credentials I just cut out the middle man and do it myself.
err...i mean... :o

hey. it's sketchy. but not really illegal.

Doh!
I think I was doing it wrong (playing the track directly from Maschine).
Thanks! :)

lol, and that is why i stopped, ditched everything and started again and happily pay for what i use now. i still have friend who try and justify it by either saying "i wanted to try it and see how it was" or "meh, big companies have shed loads of money, so what if i stole the whole waves plugin package" but i often remind them that 1) you can trial most stuff for free anyway and 2) all companies, big or small, spend a lot of money in actually making the product and if everyone thought the same way as this then companies wouldn't have any money to reinvest to make new and better products as no one would spend any money buying their product.

Ha ha, I hope my devils advocateness was taken lightly. I think it was. You guys are good sports!

Cheers :)

I know someone who has a cracked version of ableton live 8, which if I'm correct is £350! he says it works fine but I wouldnt do that. I download the odd song illegally, but £350 worth of software is in a different league - especially considering in terms of cost it would make up 2/7 of my studio..
