Hey all,

I'm just getting started with my home recording set-up. I have an Apple Macbook Pro, and I'm hoping to connect an old Yamaha EMX 640 powered mixer to the laptop, to work as a pre-amp for an SM57.

Trouble is, I'm a bit scared that the laptop and mixer may not be compatible, and I really want to avoid blowing my laptop up!

Could anyone please advise as to whether I am likely to encounter any issues with the above? Perhaps it will be perfectly fine?

Thanks!

Hi,

Does your mixer have a USB out or RCA out?

It has 'REC OUT', which I presume are the output jacks I need to connect to the laptop. The only other output jacks are the speaker ones. Perhaps I'll just give it a try and hope for the best!

If you are serious about recording than you are going to need an interface.

What jack is the REC OUT? RCA? 1/4?
