The vast majority of soundguys are total shit.
man ain't that the truth!

When I do go somewhere that I know the soundman is good it's pretty relaxing since you know everything will be ok.

And I'll tell you something ..... a really good soundman will work around your preferences. While they might prefer you play at bedroom volumes ...... a good one will respect your need to have at least a certain level of volume if that's part of your thing and work with that.

Exactly. We did a gig a few weeks ago and he told the guys to turn down. I can see that sometimes with 100w tube halfstacks, but this wasn't a small room and he had them turn down to a point that their amps sounded bad and there was precious little stage volume besides my drums pounding away. We did the sound check and it just wasn't working and I let him know. After going internet gerg on him a little bit, he got it worked out, the guys turned back up, and it was a great gig. :)

:D:D:D I'm sitting here just laughing .... that's the funniest thing ..... 'going internet gerg' on someone!

Bwahahahaha!

:D

Sort of disappointing how few clips have been posted.

Never heard my clip. I assume people don't like metal tracks too much :(

Just guitars (BC Rich & Jackson axes / Mesa Boogie Rectifier / Shure SM57, Senheisser 421, Senheisser 906, and Neumann mics), panned hard left and right:

Mix with bass and drums:

That is a really cool site and i like those clips - some great tones in there

I got a new set-up and just recorded this to test it out - took out a lot of the bass compared to my last set up, might need to bring some more back in.

What Celestion is stock? Have you tried it with other speakers/cabs?

Celestion 80 - I tried it through a Blackstar 4x12 cab at the store but I don't have any other speakers right now. After tweaking a little I dialed in some better sound.

This is a newer one - from a song I am retracking - les paul panned left, SG panned right - same amp settings

For the kind of variety you describe, I think the best bang is in the used market with Mesa and Rivera amps. Most used Mesa amps can be found used for half the new price, and many Riveras used can be found for half or one third of new price. For starters the Mesa Express 5:50 will do what you want and can be found for $700-850 roughly. My Rivera Knucklehead 55 will do all that stuff with ease, and they are in the $500-800 range.

If your budget is super tight, then look at the Vox AD50 or VT80 / VT120. Lots of variety in sounds, available for under $300, and comes to life with a simple speaker swap. Fender Mustangs are how right now, too. For $600 new you can check the demos on the Carvin V3M, a 3 channel beast that will get you a ton of settings. Traynor has a 3 channel head YCS100 that is under $1000 new, seperate everything on each channel.

I was messing around this morning wanting to reamp something and remembered a band I recorded some time back. Here's a short amp reamp.

The amp is a 3-Monkeys Grease Monkey. Gtr starts with the bass and kit added mid ways.

The Grease Monkey is a absolutely fabulous single channel amp. When I got the chance to play it, I bought it on the spot. If you ever get the chance to play one, don't pass it up.
