Hey everybody,
I'm trying to find a mic for a bluesy crooner style voice, a little raspy at times as well. I need something with good detail. I don't want it to smooth out the raspyness, but I don't want it to be overly sensitive to highs. Any suggestions?

Hello Alan - My first gut reaction reply would be the Shure SM7b but I would first ask you what your preamps are and any other info regarding your recording chain.

+1 on all that.

The SM7 has that quality you're after, but you need a preamp with quite some db to get it to perform like it should.

What are you looking for exactly Alan? Like a Mark Lanegan kind of sound?

I use a presonus firebox. It seems to do well with my other dynamics. I am interested in the sm7. Ive read a lot of good stuff about them. Ive had good luck with dynamics and condensers are too sensitive to me. The idea of the sound in my head would be something like a mix of summertime by janis joplin and amy winehouse but a masculine sound like Teddy Pendergrass or Elvis but not as smooth as his voice.
