Hi, I am currently thinking of buying my first valve mic (maybe an SE 2200T) and I normally use an apogee duet as my preamp to mac. I feel silly to ask but would this transformer connect direct to my mac or would this still go via my apogee duet then to my mac?

Any help is much appreciated thanks

Bob :D

The tube mic connects to the Power Supply with a special multi-pin cable...then from the PS you have an XLR mic cable that goes to your preamp like any other mic cable.

Thanks for your reply I was thinking that the valve mic would bypass this in someway as not used one before. I know you can buy valve pre amps but i would imagine the AD converters in the apogee would do the trick for getting a nice sound off the valve mic?

A preamp doesn't care what kind of mic you hook up to it...though some mic/preamp combinations work/sound better than others.

Your "transformer"...the tube mic power supply....takes care of powering the tube and bringing the audio signal to the preamp...you can then use a tube preamp or solid state preamp, that's your choice.
