I use headphones when I record myself so I can hear my vocals at the same time of course. But does using headphones make things complicated?! Because it sounds really different in my headphones than when I playback. It sounds worse when I playback. I'm new to recording and don't have a clue on how to set up!! I do have audio technica at2020 and M-Audio Fast Track interface.

This may sound silly, but i dont know the best way to play backing track. I burn them to cds and play them on my hifi. It isn't the proper way, right? Should I get speakers and connect them up with my channels on my interface?

If someone can explain how to record from start to finish, step by step. I would appreciate it so much!!

You should be able to import the backing tracks into your recording software and play them from there.

It's normal that your voice sounds different from what you're used to. You've always heard yourself through your head by bone conduction, but other people and the microphone aren't affected by bone conduction. What you are hearing played back is closer to the voice everyone else hears.

Save teh backing tracks in your computer. Import them as media files into your DAW project.

ok thanks. do i record the backing track at the same time as recording my vocals? sorry if this is a silly question. I'm just brand new to recording.

Don't burn them to disc, just import them to your DAW and make a track for them, then play them from there.
