Hello all,

I am new to home recording and new to this forum. I have a question about using my LA-610 with my Digi 002 rack going into protools. My 002 has 4 xlr inputs and 8 1/4" outputs. The LA-610 has one mic input, one line input and one output (all xlr). How would i go about hooking this up to my 002 and then using it as an insert after a track has been recorded? Will I encounter any latency or delay issues?

Thanks

I wouldn't think you would have any latency issues, but I am not real familiar with the sends on the 002. I would think you could just use the standard send/return loop from the 002.

But are you talking about recording a track into Pro-tools, then running it back out through the 002, through the LA-610 and then back into the DAW to record it again?

I think that might be above my pay grade as far as helpful answers go :X

A Google search for "digi 002 manual" turned up the manual in the first result. LA-610 as well.

What do the manuals say? I don't have either box.

I guess i'm trying to use the 002 as the converter for the analog LA-610, essentially bypassing the 002 rack (if that's right). For example, I want to be able to use the compressor on the 610 on a track that has already been recorded and adjust levels and all that instead of using the unit as the recorded piece is going in live. Does that make sense?

If you are recording thru the 610 you would go mic into 610, XLR line out of 610 to TRS cable into line in 5,6,7 or 8.
Send the tracks output to one of the avail line outs, TRS-XLR cable to line in on 610, 610 XLR out to TRS input 5 ,6, ,7,or 8.

Arm a new track with the input selected for what ever you ran the 610 into and re record on a new track.

Perfect. Thank you.

To use the 610 as an effect on a pre recorded track

Set the tracks output to a hardware line output.
Physically connect that to the 610 line input
Physically connect the 610 line output to a digi 002 line input (5-8 i think)
Assign that input as the recording source on a new separate audio track in protools.
Hit record.

Yes, you will encounter some latency. It wont be enough to matter, unless you are using the wet and dry tracks together, in which case you can manually realign the new track with the old one.

Great. Thank you. Another question: is there a way to use the 610 as an additional mic pre input simultaneously with the 002 so i can have a total of 5 mic inputs instead of 4 from just the 002?
