Mic Vs. Preamp Vs. Audio Interface

Hey everyone
I have been recordings songs for over 11 years now and always was poor and had to get the cheapest equipment
I now have some money to spend but i need help
I bought an Audio-Technica AT3035 a few years back, and i'm using the M-Audio Firewire Solo
I want to improve my sound quality my budget is less than $1,000

Should I use all the money for a preamp or should i upgrade the mic and get a preamp, or spend it all on a mic?

I was also wondering if the M-Audio device will affect the sound quality if I get a good preamp

I've been doing literally hours of research and can't find the answer I'm looking for
So if anyone has any suggestions that would be Awesome!!

Some more information would be helpful for us to provide useful advice: What kind of music, what kind of instruments do you record, # of simultaneous tracks you wish to record, do you DI anything or use a mic for everything, are vocals a part of the picture, do you have a decent sounding room, etc.?
 
Well I have 12,033 youtube subscribers and i do a lot of commentary over videos heres a link for example youtube.com/watch?v=KAfB05lXT-w&feature=channel_video_title
I also rap and my rapping is in the video. I would like something that would be good for both
 
I have not heard this question in a while! Unless your preamps and converters are utter crap, the mic is the most important IMO.
 
As for many of us here ..... once we find the weakest link in our recording chain ..... money just flies out of our wallets!

Since i only need to hook up one mic, shouldn't I pick something besides the usbpre2 to get better quality out of the pre?

Hard saying ..... are you anywhere near a store that has these and that you can try out?
 
Yea i will check em out tomorrow... Now the final decision....

Should i spend my money on a preamp or get a new audi interface like a RME baby face or a duet2 ??

Any suggestions??
 
OK i got my 10th post so now i can put my youtube video here so you can listen to my voice and help with the decision

Shows you, A 'tramp' for want of a better word actually asked me for a fiver in the street recently.
I thought tramps asked for your change......A fiver??

Beggars are literally being choosers now huh? dude probably earns more than I do.
