The Devil Has Blue Eyes
Hi all,

I used to have an MXL 4000 which I liked quite a bit with my style of vocal (thin and raspy). I recently upgraded to a Rode NT1A. I didn't feel it was open enough but yet has very high sibilance..."S" sounds are coming thru way too much. So I tried having the mic modded by Oktavamod but I'm still having the same problem. So now I'm throwing it all to the wind in the hopes of investing in a fairly decent mic in the under $1000 range.

I've narrowed it down to the Neumann TLM102 and the AKG C414B. Any thoughts between the two?

Thanks,

Got a stereo pair of the AKG 414 for sale here at HR in the Free Ads for Music/Recording Equipment forum!

Too rich for my blood. Plus, I only record vocals and acoustic guitar...I don't think I have a great need for a stereo pair.

Thanks,

I've heard great things about the tlm 102. However, there are some Sputniks going for about $550 on Amazon right now. They are said to have that "classic" sound ;)

Yeah and I don't want to separate them ..... they have been together since birth :p

Hey G. I have a ua710 mic pre which has tube functionality so I'm looking for a solid state mic.

Thanks
