Somebody tell me this won't work before I try it. If i space them out so they don't rattle against each other, or caulk 'em up maybe?

Either way I'm doing it because it will look sweet.

so far so good, about 12$ in materials minus the cans. 4x4 underlayment, silicone caulk, pbr.

will post pics soon.

well it's edward 40 hands at my place tonight so i'm taking it easy... i mean quality assurance and all. fine i'll keep drinking.

Are you using multiple sized beer cans? 8, 12, 16, 20, and 32's? Sounds like you may need some help there. :)

i'm thinkin i'll shoot for a pyramid kind of shape, i got 3 rows of regular cans started, and i think i'll move to tall boys and just start double stacking til i hit the middle. got a pic for ya in a minute. I'm currently working on the busch layer, my least favorite layer.

Bush? Oh, sorry....Yes Busch should always be on the bottom.

well i wanted pbr on the outside, as it's cheap AND drinkable, but i'm hiding the bud light and busch

bout 1mm between them all. got two edges finished = 18x18 beers = 324 beers.

Luckily I was just discharged from the military, and have a month of paid leave! Hopefully my liver fails BEFORE I lose medical benefits.

Not worried about the time or money thing, as money is <20$ and time is plentiful. Like I said, even after it proves useless, I have some sweet white trash home decor.

To keep the cans stable you need to put a big drop from a hot glue gun in between every can that will keep them apart and stable once you are finished and want to hang that bad boy up. ;)

Doesn't add up to me. But, to each his own "diffuser". Personally, I like my DIY stuff to WORK, which is not to say eye candy isn't nice, but if it's performance your after..well, I rest my case. Anyway, good luck..oh, and btw. I've drank my share of beer while working on mine too.:D But I recycled the cans to buy 703 for the absorption side of the equation.

I'm not factoring in the beer just because I'll be drinking beer anyways, and yes if this thing is absolutely useless and i can't even look at it, i'll put the cans towards something more practical :)

and good idea with the hot glue gun, i might just use some of the silicone since i don't have a gun.

and as far as measuring this thing goes, what's the easiest way to measure how this thing is/isn't working? it should be more than obvious i'm a dullard when it comes to room treatment by now haha :D

I don't think you count the beer can cost when they are already available, the empties are around anyway so might as well glue them to a piece of wood instead of sending them to the recycle place (I'm guessing its not a deposit state).

I would recommend 2 things for this project.

1) Make sure you have washed the beer cans thoroughly or you going to have a real disgusting smelling diffuser.
2) You need to get varied sized cans like jimmy mentioned for it to actually diffuse. (Optionally you could create spaces for some of the cans out of 2x4's and 1x4's)

You need to end up with a staggered area like so:

took care of step one

i was thinking a pyramid shape, since the cans have gaps between them and are an odd enough shape already

Can't help but thinking you're going to introduce new resonances using this, as beer cans are essentially membranes that will vibrate at certain frequencies.

Let us know how it shakes out.
