What is the difference though between some of these 47's? some have a very shinny basket where as some have a matte Finnish like it's body. Could be a new basket I suppose.

Look HERE there is one that has been refurbished by B.L.U.E.

They ( Neumann ) made several revisions of the U47 during the years. Your link shows many originals and one spoiled by BLUE -if you want the original

So-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o Matti are those ALL yours?

All Neumann U47's were available in matte finish or shiny grill. I have seen U87's in matte black from the 60's.

That must look cool ..... any pictures or link to a picture?

The 47 and the 48 are twin brothers cut from the same cloth are they not?

Very similar. The U48 is the same body as the 'short body' U47. The big difference being the U47 had cardioid and omni patterns while the U48 had cardioid and figure-of-8 patterns. I believe there was at least one if not two of the original U47's owned by EMI altered to feature the figure-of-8 pattern specifically for the Beatles.

In principle the only difference would be how you give voltage to the capsule front and back

Cheers for the info guys.
I always thought it would be how the two voltages produced are combined that create the difference. Using phasing between the two to cut out sounds from particular areas.

Well out of my head: One side of a capsule would be more or less cardioid, both would be more or less omni, and the other side inverted would produce fig of 8 like pattern, again more or less
