Hi guys i'm new to the forum,

I've just started my A/AS levels and am doing music tech.

I do have a question already! I'm looking for a small, 8 channel'ish mixer for under £200, the mackie 802 VLZ3 looks perfect but there's no mention anywhere about how I could connect it to my macbook. I'm assuming its not going to be via firewire? If so could you recomend a set up that would enable it to be connected please.

The mackie FX8 looks ideal too, however it's 'live performance' orientation makes me think it's recording quality wouldn't be as good as that of the 802.

Any suggestions or info would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks a lot guys,

Jake! :)

Your going to need an A/D interface to hook up to your computer. You don't even need a mixer (your choice though) just get an interface with nice micpres and away you go!

Just read it, thanks a lot for sharing that. Think i'll look for either an A/D interface for the 802 or possibly find a mixer with onboard firewire. Thanks again

do you not read. you do not need a mixer, you need an interface. that mixer is only gonna let you record two tracks to your cpu. not 8 like you think. all you inputs will be summed to stereo.

Yeah, you'd be better off with an audio interface. Unless of course you'll be using the mixer for other stuff too, such as gigs and whatnot. Is that the case, or is this purely for recording as I inferred?
