Cubase & PreSonus Studio One

are apparently related, in that some the Cubase developers ended up helping to create Studio One. There are bound to be similarities.

I'm wondering if anyone here can say if there is anything to choose between the two as far as consumption of computer resources goes. Is there much difference to speak of, using the full-bore editions?

Several different things use up different computer resources, it isnt really how much "stuff" (or how big of a program) is installed on your hard drives, but rather what you have running during your recordings.

Here is a basic list:

You should really have at least 4gigs of RAM(memory) to run a few reverbs, etc. (2g will be pretty limited)

A single core cpu will run audio tracks and effects fine, but: if you plan to use quality VSTi instruments plan on a core per instrument, i.e. a quad core cpu can run 4 VST instruments, there are ways around this but I'm not gonna go into that now.

What are you looking to record/produce?

What are you after? I demo'd Studio One, it's pretty nice. I might try using it if I buy a Lexicon bundle but for now I use Sonar X1 and Reaper. I'm still looking for something that is better for MIDI with audio, which might turn out to be Reaper, but I can't get my Cakewalk Studio Instruments working with Reaper. I might try a Sonar book to see if I can get used to Cakewalk, but if I end up buying a Lexicon for an audio interface, I might end up getting accustomed to Studio One. I'm in a learning mode, so I'm not sure what I'll end up doing by the time I'm happy with my MIDI gear, which is what I am trying to learn to integrate.

I need audio rec/edit to be very strong. MIDI needs to be there, but I can stick-handle around that a bit.
