Recordable CDs

Some time ago I bought 100 Maxell recordable audio CDs in order to transfer my LPs and tapes. Only one in three recorded completely, the remainder stopping after anything between 5 and 15 tunes, rendering them useless for my purpose. I also tried a number of TDK CDs and found that many would not read and initialise so would not record at all. I am using a Denon CDR 1000 to record on. Can anyone explain why this is happening and if there is anything that can be done to cure matters before I buy any more blank discs?
Thanks

Yeah, I expect your burner is picky about its media. Been there, done that. First, run a laser lens cleaner disc through it to make sure your lens is clean. Then, do a search on line for Taiyo Yuden CD's. I bet they run with no problem. Many Japanese CD-R units are designed specifically to fail to run Chinese CD's, especially cheap ones like Maxell. Just feed it Japanese-made CD's, and it should be happy.-Richie

I think OP may have misunderstood the purpose of the site, although glad someone could help him!

Not knowing the unit specifically, I have to wonder if it wants those "Music CD-R" things instead of your typical everyday data disc (or perhaps the other way around if the OP is already using the Music CD-R's).

If the recorder requires Audio CD-Rs it won't record on normal CD-Rs. A recorder that doesn't require them can still use them.

I have acquired a cleaner disc and after use, managed to record on two of the JVC (not TDK) discs which previously would not operate and hope that I might have success with others. When I need a further supply I'll buy some Taiyo Yuden discs which I must admit to having never heard of and hopefully there'll be no further problems. I'll let you know in due course. Many thanks.

Taiyo Yuden is the manufacturer, and they are sold under several brand names, such as Microboards Technology. The cheapest way is to just buy Taiyo Yuden direct on line by the 100's.-Richie

Do you have a CD burner on your computer? Use that instead with a suitable software you should have few problems.

At last I'm able to report that although cleaning as suggested enabled me to record on some CDs which would previously not do so, I have had no luck at all with the Taiyo Yuden discs of which I bought 100. Just one of the first half dozen or so recorded anything at all and that stopped before the end and I could not finalize the disc, rendering it virtually useless. Thereafter, my machine would not initialise and came up with a 'No Disc' sign every time. Now what?

Try some other type of disc, like CD-R Audio, the ones meant for consumer CD recorders.

Sounds like your CD recorder may be malfunctioning.

Taiyo Yuden are probably considered one of the top choices for CD media...so I doubt it's the discs.
That said...TY was acquired by JVC awhile back and from what I've heard is now in some Chapter 11 situation since blank disc buying is dropping off rapidly (everyone wants files, not discs)....so it may be a bad batch of CDs, but like others have said, it's probably your burner.

Never had good luck with Maxells.

I've always stuck with Taiyo-Yuden CDs and Philips DVDs for burning.

I agree it's probably the burner.
Just forget the Denon and burn discs directly from your PC.
