Hi,

have an electro-acoustic guitar.

i want to record the guitar through its pickup -

and i want to record singing and playing acoustically through a microphone.

two separate inputs simaltaneously:

1) electro-acoustic guitar on its own, plugged into input;

2) vocals and acoustic guitar accompaniment - through a mic.

how can i do this please?

my interface is M-Audio FastTrack USB Guitar/Mic.

have a mixer hardware [Yamaha MG102c] which allows me to multi record from separate sources in real time;

but my mixer software 'MixCraft' will only allow me to record one track at a time. it will not allow me to open two tracks simultaneously or record two inputs in parallel

is there a software which will allow two or more inputs to be recorded at the same time please?

many thanks,

Ric

On my Daw, im able to insert tracks... and arm them to record from any Input I have avaliable. Im Using Reaper, which is a free DAW. I would imagine that your daw would be capable of this. On the same " tab " where you adjust your pan, and volume, you should be able to choose what input you are recording.

Thanks - been wrestling with this one for about 6 months now :-o will update

I use mixcraft and it allows me to record seperate sources.

One should be setup to record line in left, the other line in right I believe. Not familiar with the fast track tho

thanks guys - what interfaces are you using?

i am on FastTrack (model I) which only has one line in and one mic in ~ so maybe only one preamp on board?

how do your inputs compare to this please?

btw i want to record two live sources simultaneously ~

a) microphone (xlr)

b) electro-acoustic guitar (pickup / jack)

I use an M-audio Firewire solo. Make sure you have selected the ASIO drivers in the preferences recording settings. Then hopefully when you click on the downward arrow next to the arm button you should have some options stating line in left, and line in right. On mine the mic is left and the DI is right.

I thought yours worked the same way.....it should give you one stereo input (2 mono) and 1 stereo output (2 mono)

USB M-Audio Fast Track for Garageband sound issues

This helped me understand your interface more.....I think you just need to understand how to split the stereo channel into 2 mono outputs.

doesn't seem to work: i plugged guitar into the single line-in with mic into the single xlr-in

according to the monitor this gave me guitar on one stereo side and mic on the other

but when i tried to isolate the left and right all i got was elements of both L /R channels coming through whatever i did - however i panned

so you can't get two separate independent L / R channel things going simultaneously in FT mark I

otherwise I could save each panned channel and end up with a mono vocal track and a separate mono guitar track - both exactly parallel

but you can't do this on FT1, you just get a mishmash of L/R whatever you try to do, even recording in mono (i never select stereo anyway)
