My band, Good Timing >
Were walling in my 13'-18' sunroom to be a full control room and live room. I need some ideas for my control room, and haven't seen any in the post you studio thread.

Thanks,

MaVN

I don't have a website lol

Edit: where in Houston do you live?

13' x 18' space for both?

Don't do it.

Both rooms will sound like ass.

Agreed...don't break it up into two rooms...it WILL sound like ass.

I have side rooms that I can use...but my main recording space is one room. If you are primarily recording your own stuff....it's not a major issue. If you are going to run a more commercial studio, then it's better to have a control room, though you would need much more space than what you have....and there are larger pro studios that favor the one-room approach where most of the tracking and monitoring is done, with maybe a booth for occasional isolation use...but again, they have larger spaces to work with.
You will end up with two "closets" if you split that room... :(

Sorry guys.. I failed on dimensions. It's 13.5' x 21' I don't know if it helps. I would like to have a live room and a control room since I'm
Recording my band and alot of others very soon. Is there a website for studio layouts?

Thanks!

No matter...both rooms will be too small and sound like ass.

Do the math: 21'/2= 10.5' for each.
13.5' x 10.5' is walk-in closet space...and if you try to make the "live" room the bigger one...then your control room will be just a small closet. By the time you drop equipment int there, you won't be able to move.
I can't see a band in a 13.5' by 10.5' (or even 12') room (which would then make your control room 13.5' x 8')...and don't forget that the walls and acoustic treatment will eat up some of that too.

Look...just 'cuz you feel that you "need" a live room + control room, it doesn't make that space any more realistic for two rooms.
Leave it ONE room...and even THAT will feel small with a full band in there.

Or ignore everything that's been said and build two walk-in closets and learn the hard way.... ;)

I'm starting to move everything out tomorrow! Thanks for all the help!

One question. What if I had the whole room open with an iso room in the corner for acoustic guitar and a small drumset because I was going to do 2 rooms because I don't want too much sound going out to the neighbors.

You'd be ahead treating the single large room.
