Whats your effects chain?

For the last few years I've been mainly using amp sims, recently I have realised that, although they are good they don't really inspire the creation of new tones/effects (for me anyway)

My style is kinda headed towards a Coldplay kinda, slightly distorted crazy delays kinda thing, although I love playing rock/blues my own musical style is a little more mellow. I want to develop my effects chain to compliment this.

To the point. . . . . although this has probably been done before, I think it would be cool to see how simple/ complex some of your setups are, and maybe can help inspire my decisions. Just for funsies!!

My current analoge (physical) chain is:

LP Studio >Boss Mega Distortion> Boss Acoustic simulator> Digitech RP80> Marshall MDG 50 DFX
 
Depends. Have numerous FX but only use what I want at the time.

MoogerFoogers: MF-102 Ring Modulator, MF-104 Analog Super Delay, MF-105M MIDI MuRF, MF-107 Freq Box, CP-251 Control Processor, Voyager Electric Blue analog monosynth, Taurus 3 analog bass monosynth. Numerous expression pedals for control-voltage with Moogers and synths.

Mu-Tron III and Octave Divider.

FoxRox Paradox through-zero flanger.

Morley Flanger from 1980 or so.

Roger Mayer Voodoo Vibe.

Geoffrey Teese RMC-3 wah.

KLON Centaur overdrive.

GT Brick preamp. Use as pre into a chopped Leslie speaker. Sounds epic with the KLON driving it.

Meek VC6Q mic/instrument preamp. Mostly use that with P-Bass.

Roland SDE-1000 digital delay.

Lexicon MPX-1 digital multi-FX.
 
I have become rather the minimalist when it comes to effects.

Most of my amps have on-board tremolo, reverb, or both- I have a Line 6 Tap Tremolo pedal for those occasions when I play through an amp that lacks tremolo. I am just fruit for tremolo. I don't care too much for stomp-box distortion or pre-amp distortion, but I will use either on occasion- my preference is an attenuator, between the amp and speaker, which gives me the power-tube distortion I like. The one floor effect you will almost always see in front of me is a Dunlop Wah, but I use it with some restraint.

With rare exceptions, that's it- that's all the effects I usually use. Occasionally, I like some chorus, but only for special effects like on the acoustic guitar in Melissa Etheridge's "Come To My Window;" I prefer the natural chorus a 12-string has (Melissa almost always plays a 12, but in that song, electronic chours is added. I'm almost as fruit for Melissa Etheridge as I am for tremolo, and yes, that pun is intended.)

About 15 years ago, I bought, new a Digitech RP-7. A big part of the reason I bought it was to have at my disposal several effects, so I could determine which I liked and which I didn't. Although I paid too much for it (one of the few pieces of gear I bought, new) it paid for it's self several times over by keeping me from buying boxes of stomp boxes that would have turned out to be flashes-in-the-pan for me. It's still around- I go back to it when I need something weird...

And, God DAMN, Melissa can even make a shaved head look good! How DOES that lesbo woman DO it???:confused:

Interesting that you use the Meek for bass, and not the Brick. I'm assuming it's for the Meek's compression?
 
LP Studio -> Boss DS-2 -> Boss DD-3 -> Boss RV-5 -> Boss RC-30.

The DS-2 will definately be replaced as it sounds way too grainy. How is that Boss Mega Distortion working out for you? I love Boss pedals but the distortion-pedals to me sounds very cheap.

I seem to get alot of unwanted noise out of it, but having done a little messing around that appears to be a problem with the signal chain, and the general nature of distortion. It does exactly what it says on the tin, I can get some mouth watering smooth and creamy distortion out of it, which is really great for powerful lead parts, especally with a light touch of delay. If you dial everything right down you can achive a nice crunch aswell. That said, I generally perfer the distortion channel on my marshall. If you use the pedal in the right way its great, but it's very easy to go over the top

nice banks, i see the BF2 flanger there..i've got the same exact one, with the white knobs and all..i hardly use it much though..i feel it's way too loud compared to all the other effects and there's no level control on it haha

my geetar rig is typically my strat or my parker into my tc electronic polytune tuner, then into a Boss OC-2 octaver, then into a dunlop 535q wah, then into a boss SD-1 overdrive pedal, then into a marshall guv'nor distortion pedal, then into a Boss CH-1 chorus pedal into my JCM2000 stack.

in my FX loop of that, i'm running a digitech whammy and a boss DD3 delay. i've got a lotta stuff going on, but i like it and use all of it, so i just keep it all plugged in lol

as for my bass rig,

i use my schecter/G&L/fender into the polytune tuner, then into the boss SD1 overdrive pedal, sometimes into the boss CH1 chorus pedal for certain songs for my band, and a boss bass equalizer pedal..... if i'm feelin funky i'll add my electro harmonix bassballs in there...and then i'll use my ashdown bass compressor when i pull out the schecter for some mean drop D stuff...which all goes into my GK Backline 600 head into a Sunn 415m 4x15 cab

Yeah, for the compression and the EQ. I use fast attack and slow release, and bump the EQ at 100Hz about 3dB, the mids about +3dB @ about 900Hz, and rolloff the high end.

haha really? all the time? are those settings in that pic what you're always using? maybe i should try :\ where do you run it, like before or after disto pedals, or in a loop or what
 
I run it next to last in the chain, but I usually end the chain with a shifter or flanger. You have to keep a close eye on the regen. just a bit too much and it blooms badly. I have to change it depending on what bass I use and which amp.
 
i have a ton of stuff, but usually it's just:

guitar -> amp (lower the volume on the guitar to get it clean, up to get it dirty).

I love effects, but I saw "it might get loud" with jimmy page, the edge, and jack white. the edge had a room full of stuff and sounded cool. Jimmy Page had an LP to a Marshall and just used the tone, volume, and pickups to get AMAZING sound. Now I'm trying to do the same and keep it simple.

When I need tremolo I have that, when I need delay I have a DL4, and of course a million overdrive pedals.

Nice chain you've got there. I'm kind of new to effect chains and so how have you supplied them all with the same power-cable like that? I've been buying batteries for each of mine which is quite expensive.
