Needs more power.
The harmony parts could be octaves with wide panned sounds in the background like dive bombers or imagine a million old stoves falling off the side of the deepest gorge in the grand canyon. A near miss of white noise. FA
To me, right now I'd like it to ram up where it ramps down.

I thought it was great!

Two things I would do differently:

Thing one: the phrasing in the lead vox is trying to catch the rythmic figure in the BDG's. My point of view is that it's a mistake for two reasons.
First, the vocal isn't as articulate as the figure on the instruments, and the whole figure get's kind of mashed up....loses effectiveness. [and it's hard to understand the words]
Second, the figure becomes monolithic....no counterpoint or "gear-jive" between the vocal and the big figure playing on BDG's. A little Bach in it would round things out...like the lyrics being sung quarter triplets over the down-four of the figure. That'd have two rythmic, melodic lines sort of dancing to the time a lot...and that'd add a lot of interesting stuff to hear. *[and the words would be more understandable]

One other thing I'd have done diff'rent: the 'background' vocals in the chorus would have been spread kind of wide. As it is panned, it sounds like all the vox are CTR. I think you could capitalize on the ear-candy factor by pushing the melodic stuff to the wings...like the bass and guitar guys are doing the backup.

Other than that...and even as it is, I liked it a lot. Thought it had a lot of energy. And I liked the arrangement and progression and stuff. Wicked nice.

* consider the figure and vocal counterpoint in Zep's "The Grunge", for an example of rythmic jive between vocal and BDG figure.

First impressions:
Snare needs too be tuned differently, or have some about 6-800hz pulled out.
Guitar tone is a little weak for me, I was hoping for a more smooth tone on the chorus, maybe another part added to it.
Overheads are a little too dry for me.
Toms sound great!
Vocals are good, maybe a little more compression on this style, or more focus on performance.

Overall you are on the right track, are these live drums?
What mic did you use on the vox?

I agree with the overheads needing some 'shimmer'. I get the feeling I'm inside of a box when listening. Feels a bit uncomfortable. Besides that, I think it is pretty fuckin badass! Very close to sounding expensive. :)

Agreed!!! Been telling them that. Great feedback though! Thanks!!

I'm not sure what dry overheads means?!?!
I used a Beyer M88 because I don't have an SM-7 :)

I haven't read any of the comments yet, so sorry if I repeat anything. The vocals seem very much in-your-face, not in a good way. Seems like the 2.5k-ish freqs are a bit high, and grating. The drums sound a bit dull... They need more space and more punch. More compression, perhaps?

Musical performances all around are really well done, in my opinion. Most glaring issue are the vocals - they just need to sound more seated in the mix.

Good job, and thanks for sharing!

I like the rawness in this. Everything is tight and well performed without getting too polished. The drums are lacking a bit of attack I think - something to cut through a little better. Good listen.:):D:cool:

I'd agree with others here: Lower volume on the vocals. More attack in the drums, and perhaps narrow the overhead stereo image - cymbals toward the end were a bit unbalanced.
