Studio Projects B1 + Behringer MIC 100 CRACKLES

Hi,

Two days ago I have bought a new Studio Projects B1 mic. I also have got second-hand Behringer MIC 100 Preamplifier. The first day of using it was normal - the sound was good. When I wanted to record myself yesterday I could hear a noisy crackles mostly on vowels. Sometimes I can record normal voice, but most of time there are audible crackles.

I attached my recordings, in order to help you identify source of problem.

Has my singing caused moisture that spoiled the microphone, or preamplifier is too cheap? I tried to place the microphone beneath an incandescent light bulb, like they told in instruction manual, but problem still persist.

I dunno, I could not hear the crackles. Gain too high causing clipping? I would blame the pre-amp first.
 
That's how GAIN knob is set on preamp. Listen how dirty is "A" in "crackles.mp3" in relation to "normal.mp3".

I believe it's Poland :). Although there is a Poland, Maine, I'm guessing he means the one in Europe :p :D.

apex, I actually have both of those items and have used them together a lot over the years. While I'm not hearing crackling in the 2nd sample necessarily, I do hear an added fuzz or buzz or something.

I can't tell you the source of the noise I'm afraid, although the MIC100 is a notoriously cheap device. I swapped the tube in mine and it is relatively quiet. I don't think I ever get that sound you're getting and I've used it for years. The fact that the sound comes and goes suggests some faulty connection or perhaps the factory tube is dying a slow death?
 
You're right. I've done all wires by myself, with my father, who's an electrician so I bet that wires are in good condition. What tube have you put into it heatmiser?? I think I'll try to swap it too. It seems that when the preamp produces a lot of heat, the tube spoils me all sound.

I am from Poland, the centre of Europe. :)

I found the box for the tube. It is an Ei Elites 12AU7EG...says made in Yugoslavia, so it can't be too new :)!

I don't know if it's any good or not, but certainly quieter than the one that came with it.
 
I swapped the tube today, but unfortunately it still doesn't work. Any ideas?
