I was bored this afternoon so I knocked this bitch out quick and dirty. This is all from today starting around 1:30. :p

Not looking for any critiques or anything. I didn't put too much effort into it. Just thought I'd share a little piece of what inspires me to play from my favorite band ever.

Psycho Therapy

I like takin' Tuinal
It keeps me edgy and mean

Yeah, it pretty much just sucks. :D

Nah, but for real. The vocals seem a bit buried and uncompressed. The rest of the mix is very in-your-face, unlike the original. Did you mic something differently on your drums? The overheads sound a bit different to me. May just be the mix. Oh, and why doesn't your snare sound like a cereal box? :D

Lol. Too many questions. :D

Everything is the same as usual. I just didn't spend any time tweaking or worrying about anything. I spent more time on the sirens than everything else. lol.

Check this out. Ramones live:

One, two... Yeah, you're right. :laughings:

I guess two can be a bad thing though... Two STD's. Two limbs missing. Two teeth.

That video's mix is TERRIBLE! I guess your sirens paid off. Hahaha

Lol. Which video? The studio version?

The Ramones' mix is not terrible. It's the Ramones. It's what the Ramones sound like. They play, and "The Ramones" happens. It's effortless because they just do what they do, and it's magnificent.

To assess whether anything is good or not, you ask yourself "could it be anybody else?" and if your answer is "NO", then you have the most important ingredient.

Lol. I agree 10000%. The Ramones are instantly identifiable because they simply are who and what they are. Me and thousands of other retards mimic their sound, and none of us come close.

Ehh I think the vocals could've come down regardless of what band was playing. Whatever, I'm throwing this thread off track. Carry on people. :)

I'm sure had it been actually mixed, the vocals wouldn't be so out front. The Ramones don't have many "official" live releases.

Here's an actual live (not bootlegged) release from the Ramones:

I had the privilege of seeing the Ramones once and once only in the UK years ago at Leeds University. I can't pin down the year from memory, but DeeDee had his "Too Tuff to Die" tattoo and was sporting short, spikey hair. We bumped into two guys who were staggering their way to the gig that claimed they'd been to every gig on the tour but not seen the Ramones once - they'd always collapsed through drink and drugs before the Ramones took to the stage. I can verify that I saw their prone bodies in a corridor, one of them in a pool of vomit, as I made my way to the lavatory during the gig. Epic. :laughings:

Yeah that had to be mid 80's.

I've seen em 6 times. The first time was with Dee Dee before he left. I'm very thankful for that. I think the 94 Acid Eaters tour was my favorite though. Each show was like an out of body experience for me. Just pure energy. :laughings:

I only saw them once in Florida - Psycho Therapy is definitely one of their best songs.

Yeah, just bring the voice up a bit and wrap this up, Greg.
Mix is your usual in your face , kick-ass energy and yes, you should be ashamed of that snare sound....on the other hand I'm GLAD your snare sounds like that!;):D

Haha, thanks Joey. I don't know if I'm crazy about this snare sound. It's okay I guess. Kind of donky. I didn't even test the mic location before recording. I just stuck it up there and went to town. I used an often talked about "trick" on the vocals....One take, copied and tripled. One copy got a +12 cent pitch shift, the other copy got a -12 cent pitch shift. I panned the two pitch shifted copies a little to each side and left the natural take in the middle. Why did I do this? For no other reason than just to do it. I never do it on my more serious recordings, so what the hell? I'm not crazy about the sound, so I likely won't be doing it again.

So Greg - you are playing everything here right? What do you record first? The Drum track? Or you play guitar to a click track? Seems like it would be really hard to get that first track recorded.

It's simple. Scratch guitar or bass to click, then drums to scratch and click, then delete scratch, then record everything to drums.

New mix up top. I actually mixed it this time. Lol. New guitars.
