Whats up guys im a drummer who has had the worst luck with local recording studios and the aspect of money to continuously spend on working with them. So i decided i want to start recording my own tracks with my bands other projects but im completely new and sort of confused towards the idea of building a well working studio at home. Anyone want to give me some ideas on what exactly i need to get started after buying the computer and software? Also and recommendations on products for beginners like me?

More broad series of artices that you might find helpful, basically on how to run your own multitrack recording sessions at home or wherever. Includes stuff like choosing a room to record in, what to mix on, monitoring etc as well some similar to the previous link on software/hardware etc.

Playing drums in a studio is a whole different ballgame than is playing drums live.

Recording itself is far more than just a quick trip to Guitar Center with a credit card, and recording drums is one of the more difficult recording tasks.

If you were to give us some details regarding "the worst luck with local recording studios and the aspect of money to continuously spend on working with them" we might better be able to help you...

Well, you could do worse than read through the Newbie section. So often does this come up that even if you go back only 3 months, you'll find enough info to get you going, at which point, more pointted questions will start to arrive.
It's not as daunting a task as it may currently seem.
 
After computer and software ... you'll need ay least an eight channel converter that has micpres then the mics stands and all cabling.

Where are you based, and what problems did you have, as a studio owner I like to know what clients don't like (they don't always tell you) for my own quality control?
