i want to record multiple tracks from the source, to a mixer, onto my PC or maybe a multitrack recorder. im not sure what is best. the methods of recording ive used in the past were very rudimentary and didn't give me the kind of quality i want so im looking to start off on the right foot this time.

i've got instruments and mics, a Behringer Eurorack mixer, and a decent pc. Obviously, i need some kind of interface to route the audio from the mixer to a usb port if im going to record onto the pc. i have something in mind, thats not really the problem. i would need to figure out which recording software is best/feasible, and that's why im asking questions instead of spending money without knowing my best option.

Does anyone have any recommendations? tips?

Download Reaper software - its free to try out.
When choosing an interface, remember that you need as many outputs (tracks) as you want to record individually at one time. If you mix multiple inputs down to a single interface outputt to the computer, you will not be able to adjust each instrument/mic individually.

Thanks for the recommendation, reaper is pretty affordable.

i'm trying to find a decent interface that has at least 5-6 tracks since thats all the mics i have anyway and need them all for the drums. it's really not cheap though.

do you know of any good deals?

Wait, so you'll have...

mics-->mixer-->interface-->computer

Is that what you're planning? Are you planning on recording all the tracks separately onto your computer?

What is your budget? Note that the mixer will not be needed - you will be doing your mixing in the software.

Yeah OP, what he said. ^

See, mixers blend all incoming signals into just 2 outputs, so unless you're just going for a demo track or something, you don't need the mixer in your chain. Just look around for a good audio interface! Tascam makes some good quality stuff that doesn't break the bank.
