Hi, well, i'd like you to recommend me a mic, i've read on the forums a lot about choices and i think that everybody has dif. opinions most of the time, so i'll try to specify my needs here.

So far, i have a SM57 and i use it for guitars, for vocals sometimes but they've told me it's not that good.

Besides that, i only know the SM58 mic, is it good enough?

My Budget: 100 USD and less, i already have an audio interface so no problems in that matter.

I'd like to buy it on Ebay or Musicians Friend

They've told me that some MXL mic should be an affordable option, but i was searching on Ebay and there are tons and tons of diff. models, i just got lost trying to find an option at all, so maybe i need a lil help there.

The way i sing: I intend to sing Prog Metal for my solo project, check my space:

Alberto Palacios | Kostnadsfri musik, turnédatum, foton, videos

Or just a Raw voice track here (Number 1 is a demo song, but Number 2 is Pure vocals)

As you can see, i'm trying to give you all the possible info i can in order to get a low budget mic (The perfect one for my purposes), you already heard my voice, my music, my budget and thoughts, so i wish you can help, in the end maybe i record using this new mic plus the SM57 at the same time just to see if the engineer can do something extra when mixing (Did i mention i'm recording an album)??

Thank you very much!

You would probably want to go with the MXL V67g

Ok guys, thanks for the replies so far, i've checked the MXL V67 and it seems to be between the best condenser mics!

Question, i've seen some USB mics like the MXL USB007 USB Stereo Condenser Microphone, and since it doesn't use interface and it's connected directly into the pc, would the sound be affected? I mean, i have my laptop sound card, so i'd prefer recording from the interface, i'm asumming this USB mic has it's own interface??

Can you clarify me this please? thanks.

Yo composer! Yes, a USB mic has its own preamp and A-D converter, which means that half of the cost of the mic is eaten up by the cost of the interface, and it's a wicked cheap one. There is no reason on earth why a person with an interface would buy a USB mic. Just buy a V67G and be happy.-Richie

I would agree with the last post usb mics arent to great especially if you already have an interface. try and stay away most are glorified computer mics.

If someone tells you that a 57 is not good enough, you better get as far away from them as you can because they have NO idea what their talking about. It might be the equipment, room, or mic placement but not a bad mic.

Here's what he said... "So far, i have a SM57 and i use it for guitars, for vocals sometimes but they've told me it's not that good."
And they were correct. The SM57 is not that good for vocals.
The SM 58 will suffice for vocals but you will need good preamps for either of those mics.
Entry level audio interfaces will not give you great results with either of those mics. At least, not without a lot of tweaking.
Primarily, they are on stage mics and regarded by many as the industry standard for that purpose.

AHHH I guess if you want to read the statement in context it makes sense. I totally read the line wrong. WOW, I should read more slowly. Thanks. Now it does make sense.

Not a problem.
It's all entirely subjective though and that's the point I'm trying to make.
You or someone else could contradict everything I just wrote about those two Shure microphones and both of us would still be right.
