How to have my own avatar?

Alright, I never really bothered with figuring it out but when I go to edit my profile, I can't put in my own avatar. And also, some people have something below their avatar besides "Registered User" and I'd like to be able to change that as well.

After like 500 posts you'll be able to change both.
