you can also get castanets that are mounted. It is easier to control.

Where i live the only hot spanish women are on the Univision channel.Most of them around here are pretty big and sporting facial hair!
 
Or a redneck with a set of spoons. Kind of a similar sound, but less dancing.

 
We will shoot arrows into the tops of your heads and make castanets of your testicles already.
 
The wooden fish and the stick (AKA wood Guiro and scraper) will lend a similar percussive sound Greg. But if anything you can add it to the castanets for an interesting sound.

And now for some totally irrelevant gossip. Hendrix apparently told one of the members of Led Zep that one of Bonham's feet shook like castanets when he played drums. Can't recall which one though ! {Foot that is}.

I read that 30 years ago. I knew it would come in handy one day. ;)
 
You'd think with my impeccable sense of timing and rhythm and with my stellar fine motor shills I could clack two clam-shaped chunks of wood together in an ear-pleasing way. But no.
