Finally got my Equipment.. No idea how to use it

i made a discovering

as i plug in the microphone, the clip and signal lights start flickering, but only when its like halfway in. as soon i push the cord all the way in, the lights go dead... maybe i have a bad cord?

Mic is not line or instrument, it is mic. The 1/4" input can be changed from line input to instrument input. The XLR is for a microphone.

Are you by any chance using the 1/4" input on the interface? That won't work with a condenser mic. You need to use an XLR-XLR cable in order to get phantom power to the mic.
 
ahh.. new update
so the signal light is working now
however, it only seems to pick up a signal if the gain is turned all the way up or at least close to all the way up
and even then the recorded volume is pretty low

Have you tried other mics, other XLR cables, or an instrument or line source into the 1/4" input?

I'm a great reader of manuals... currently working my way through the 400 page Reaper user guide! Even if you don't understand everything, you do get a good background understanding of capabilities... and later on, when you're wondering how something might be done, you often recall... "yeah, I remember reading something about that in the manual..."

This, of course, presupposes that the manuals themselves are well written - and in lots of cases they're not...

Roland in particular do manuals which tell you how to do everything, but never why you'd want or need to... :laughings:

And then there's always the issue of whether you have the general level of experience required to decode what's written. Always worth doing, anyway, however...
 
so ive been looking around on the m-audio website and discovered that the fast track pro tends to have a gain problem. To be more specific, it only works when the gain is near max. Is there any way i can remedy this? the main problem is, even when it is maxed, its too quiet. I've been recording at max gain then adding additional gain with the software but it's still either not enough or scratchy.

Get the Blackjack Onyx - it has 60 dB of gain.



And it looks manly, chicks will dig it.
 
Fast track has lots of online documentation and a manual. Consult them, OP. You need to work a little harder at this.
