Ok, not so much the mental ones.

However, the two formers ones are true :D

So I've got my Keyrig49 (usb midi keyboard) plugged directly into my computer's on-board soundcard, and no matter what I do I have really bad latency in Cubase.
I've tried ASIO4ALL and generic low latency driver, but neither have helped.

The latency is very bad. To a point where it's actually unplayable.

I'm wondering if anyone can either; - Help me magically reconfigure cubase, or help me find a suitable audio interface/PCI soundcard for my computer.

Thanks guys :)

I am assuming it is an issue with drivers or sound card. I have a Oxegen61 controller and experienced latency like you mention. However, ASIO4ALL was able to resolve my issue. Try a different DAW like the demo version of Reaper, just to make sure its not Cubase that is causing your latency.

Still using a built-in soundcard?? Unfortunately, those are made with less than $1 worth of chips for beeps, boops and light gaming (not to mention cheapness for the manufacturer) and NOT quality music production. Even the cheapest $50 usb asio card will be a huge improvement.

#1 Rule of Recording: You MUST replace the built-in soundcard.

Here's a good guide and user-tested suggestions that work: The Best Audio Interfaces for your Home Studio by TweakHeadz Lab
(you'll want to bookmark and read through all of Tweak's Guide while you're there...)

Yep. Don't even bother trying to set up the ASIO drivers with a generic Soundblaster clone. Get something by M-Audio or one of the other companies specializing in prosumer audio.

"Plugged directly into my computers' on-board soundcard."

What does that mean??? The Keyrig is just a MIDI controller and doesn't have any onboard sounds.

Are you using the MIDI-over-USB function of the keyrig???

Turn off all the other apps on your computer for starters. Like screen savers and anti-virus stuff and all the IM apps. Defrag your hard drive too.

And yeah, you need a soundcard that is PCI or Firewire or at least USB2.0-based.

Did the Keyrig come with Cubase or are you using a warez version or what??? The M-Audio site says Keyrig comes with Ableton Lite. Does it work any better in Ableton??? Also, the site says it's plug-and-play with XP but doesn't mention anything past that. What OS are you using???
