I was looking at equipment i would like to know what all i would need
for a basic home studio

I was thinking a
microphone
monitors
pop filter
heaphones

i know i need a headphone amp and a mic amp
is there anything that i can connect both to
what is a usb interface and do most home recorders have mastering hardware

is there anything im missing

and is there any tutorials on how to hook them up to a cpu or hook them up period

If you are going to use a computer for recording, then you will need an audio interface, connecting to the computer either by USB or Firewire. The mic plugs into the interface, as do the monitors and headphone. A good interface will have the mic pre-amp (and phantom power if you are using a condensor mic). You don't need a headphone amp unless you need to power multiple sets of headphones.
Do some reading here - there a ton of threads from beginners asking the same questions.

There's an excellent, used MOTU audio interface for sale in the "For Sale" threads, right now.
I'd be all over that one.

Okay so baically all i really nead is a Mic, Headphones, Monitors, Interface.
What programs are good to use to record

Find Reaper on the net and down load it today! It's not that much I think $40. as a discounted price and that's after they give it to you for free to try out for an unlimited time. ;)

Put your wallet away. Whatever you buy now you'll probably regret sooner then later.

Start here and continue asking questions. You'll get a lot of dumb responses that you won't be able to tell from smart responses until you do a lot more reading.

If you just want to get started recording something... anything... to your computer and you don't want to wake up furious that you wasted your money purchase the absolute bare minimum.

Luck.

Going forward always include your budget, what you're trying to accomplish, and what you're trying to accomplish it with.

Yeah: Don't ask us. We're dumb.
Thanks Dan Fan Men.

What ill be getting

Audio Technica 4050
Primacoustic VoxGuard
M-Audio Studiophile AV 40
Tascam US 144 or Line 6 Pop studio ux2

Are the interfaces i listed good or are there better for the 100 - 200 dollar price range

Audio Technica 4050 Wow!
Primacoustic VoxGuard Why? Are you already aware of a problem that this will solve? I have one, by the way.
M-Audio Studiophile AV 40 Better than computer speakers but the good ones start at around $200 Each. I have a pair, My wife uses them in her office.
Tascam US 144 or Line 6 Pop studio ux2 Watch me now. https://homerecording.com/bbs/speci...sic-recording-equipment/fs-motu-828-a-288241/ That is so far ahead of what you're looking at. Make him an offer.

This. It can't be stressed enough. We've had a number of n00bs who posted a thread seeking advice and then run out and buy a bunch of gear without bothering to read the replies to their own thread. After they get their gear, they ask a lot more questions about "how do I make this work?" without bothering to read the manuals first. Makes me wonder why they registered here in the first place.

Looks like you are the newbies.
By the way, Do you see something wrong with my advice?

No, there's nothing wrong with recommending gear, provided you know what the OP's needs are first. I don't see any need to be insulting. It's basic common sense to do the research before running out and spending a lot of money. Contrary to your belief, doing otherwise would be the n00bish approach. Just because we joined this forum more recently than you doesn't mean we're clueless.

1) Stepping in after I offer advice to say "Don't take advice" is insulting.
2) If you like the forum then why are you both telling others to ignore it.
3) If you see bad advice, challenge it. If you have good advice, offer it but do not paint us all with such broad strokes.
4) Pleased to meet you.

I haven't said any such thing. Perhaps I should have quoted only specific parts of Dan's post to make clear which parts I was agreeing with.

That would be a good idea.
Many of us, as I'm sure you do, have a few years experience with home recording.
The questions asked in this thread are asked over and over.
The typical answer is to send the new person off to Tweakz if they are brand new or to answer specific questions related to gear if they seem to have some clue.
I'd say the O.P. here is brand new to home recording but has a firm grasp of computers and technology.
So, he/she gets some direct answers about gear.
I thought some of the choices were excellent. Others.... not so much.

The OP professes to have a few gaps in his knowledge. For example, he says he doesn't know what to connect a mic preamp or headphone amp to. He doesn't know what a USB interface is. These are things he needs to study up on in order to make informed purchasing decisions.

Now, what Dan said about getting bad advice as well as good advice on HR is spot on. For example, I've gotten advice on room treatment that totally contradicts the prevailing wisdom. If I hadn't done a lot of reading, I wouldn't have had any way to judge which advice was good and which was bad. I think that was Dan's main point.

Some of the things some of you are posting are irrelevant
If your not going to help dont reply. Thanks @Jim_LAd

I wont regret or buy something that ill have trouble with
My cousin will help me out with anythin that i have problems with
I was just wondering was the equipment i was looking at was good or not.

Does the firewire hook up to the cpu

One little thing to keep in mind here .................... the join date does not always indicate the tenure of the member. I rejoined this forum only resently under a different user name than the one I used several years past.

I guess technically I'd be considered a noob too?

All advise is great, and should be considered with some context by any person looking to improve their situation.:)

Thanks Jim_LAd and i have someone that will teach me how to properly use everything
i just want to know is the equipment im looking at is good or not
