Hey everyone. I'm completely new to recording music, however, I have many songs written that I'd like to actually record. I got some money and for christmas I'd like to get some stuff to begin this process. I play Metalcore/Hardcore/post-hardcore 90% of the time.

My gear now:
Engl Powerball v1
4x12 cab with eminence governors and celestion v30s
shure sm57
gibson les paul and charvel model 4

Where exactly do I start? Just the minimal list and maybe some reason why they would be a fit for the style of music I play. Please nothing out of this world pricey!

Dedicated computer, Interface, microphones, all appropriate cables and stands, down load Reaper.

This should get you started

A cheap multi channel that has been thrown around here recently is the Tascam 1641US

cheapo standalone recorder, mic, headphones = budget

how much are you looking to spend? enough to buy a decent computer to dedicate to recording? If it isn't in the thousands (computer + interface + mics/monitors), you can get a cheaper version by using outboard gear that is just intended for recording audio instead of being an actual computer. You don't get hearts or solitaire or a mouse, but instead you get level sliders and a tiny screen and menu buttons instead of a keyboard, but you also don't spend thousands of dollars on it.

Are you talking about the Zoom R16 or R24? Now that's an idea! ;)
