hey guys,
i have a fairly crappy interface at the moment which i bought from your everyday music store for about 100 dollars.

and i'm pretty sure this is causing a large amount of hissing and crackling when i play songs or just generally have my mixing desk and speakers on.

too me the M-Audio Fast Track looks pretty good. but im open for suggestions. i would not like to spend anymore then $300

Tascam has a nice one for cheap let me find a link for ya or you can just google it up.

No it has 8 XLR inputs. I'll try to find it for ya.

thankyou so much for your help.
if it helps im recording mostly rap music with a little bit of r'n'b singing. so i wont need to many xlr's.:)

Pci? Usb? Firewire?

Budget?

How many I/O's do you need? Midi?

General recommendations

Emu-1212m
Emu-1820m
Motu Ultralite Mk3

Curious, what interface do you have now? And why do you think it is causing the hiss??

looks like a great posibility. much better then the two inputs m audio offer for a higher price. and good reviews on it aswell.
i have just bought a preamp for my mic (a Tube MP Project Series http://www.zzounds.com/a--2676837/item--ARTTMPPS) can i use the pre amp and have the xlr output going into the interface? i dont really want to spend that money then not use it.

Yes but you'll have to go into a TRS 1/4 input of the Tascam and not an XLR input.
So you'll have to have the right cable.

its called a UXL USB160, i bought it when i was about 12-13 cause the music store guy convinced me a need one, its done okay for the last 4 years but i realise now, i have other good equipment and this is just bringing it all down.

Hmm, can't pull up much on that interface. Looks like it only has RCA ins and outs. Depending on how you're running into it.

But if your clip from your other thread is any indication, it sounds okay. You need to look at other things before throwing money at it.

One recommendation would be to connect your mixer to the interface using the Tape Ins and Tape Outs.

maybe its the mixer????

are the speakers plugged into the interface?

If you are recording or listening/playback and only doing a track at a time
the interface is all you need unless it has no pre amp and XLR for a Mic?

This is where it all goes.
Mic> Preamp>8 channel mixer> usb interface (through tape ins outs) into sonar) but my speakers are comming out of the headphone jack.
