Im an ex-spurt
Emphasis on the "extra long scale". I believe when I measured the length it was at 35 and a quarter.

I'm looking for some flatwounds for my 4 string and I was wondering if you guys had a preference.

The band I'm in now will be doing 90's rock...some Papa Roach, Three Doors Down etc, then some originals along the lines of Metallica etc...

I'm pretty sure roundwounds are more along the lines of rock/metal (at least that's what I was told) but I like the smoothness of flats.

I was looking at Elixir coated but I read they lose their brightness and tone in fairly quick order. Also looked at some GHS and some rotosounds...

?

So...ya got any thoughts/preferences? Why?

Moocho thanks-n-stuff. ;)

I've been using a set of Elixir XL scale strings on my 35" bass for, god, something like 3 years now. I don't play that frequently (I just use it to record), but they've held up fine. In fact, on the album I'm working on at the moment, it didn't occur to me that I hadn't changed my bass strings before I started until after I cut all the bass parts. I was a little worried about the intonation, but the strings still sounded plenty punchy and near as I can tell the intonation was fine.

Only thing was as I recall 35" was pretty tight - they might not work on a bass with a scale length an extra quarter inch longer. I'll take a look tonight.

Cool...thanks man. I'll take another look-see at em.

Aand...I'll take another measurement of the length tonite but I think I wasn't too blurry eyed. :D

When I first got this bass a couple months ago, I never even thought about an extra long scale. I just liked it and the way it played.
So when I changed strings and they were about an inch too short, I tied one end of the string to my bumper and the other to a light pole to try and stretch em out.

Currently bumperless.

:D
Tanx man...

check those out. they are half wounds, which means the bottom part of the string is round wound and the top part is flatwound. rock- ish tone flatwound feel. and they come in a SUPER LONG SCALE version. the super longs are for 36 in. or 35 in. (if strung through the body.) but im sure they'll work for you.

hope this helps some.

Cool....didn't know they did a half n half like that.

I'll check em out. ;)

thanks...:drunk:
