Psych Thing becomes The Master

I think the vocals are too loud. They're sitting on top of the mix instead of in the mix. What reverb are you using for the drums? I'm not sure I like it, but it's up to you. You have a Glaceverb right? Try that. It's got some decent presets that you can fine tune. I think the "mix" section of presets has some decent sounds. The "vocal ambient" preset on the Classic Reverb isn't too bad, but the rest are pretty crappy. Bottom line, presets won't get you far. You gotta tweak those knobs like they're the nipples of a fine woman. :D.

Greg,
Which Glaceverb should I start with? I had it on the least mix but tried Classic because it was easier to tweak in the terms you suggested.
Sharon,
Thanks!

Try "final mix" or "final master" or "big production" or something like that.

Whew...megaupload was fine for me tonight...only took a couple of minutes.

Wow. This is so completely different now. Everyone involved has really done a nice job with their contributions. It really sounds unlike any of your prior tunes now which is cool, but kinda sad as I am used to your sound.

I can hear everything ok and nothing is lost in the mix. Joey's vocals are really very well done, but they seem a good deal too loud in the mix as I hear it. I think the lead guitar could come up a bit too.

I love that I get to hear your tunes in stages as they develop (sometimes over the course of years!). This one really changed dramatically all at once towards the end.

I am so familiar with not only your work but the sound of everyone involved here, so I'm still kind of hearing everybody's individual parts (like, "oh, listen to Joey hit that note"...or "dig that fill from greg", or "nice riff there gerry", or whatever) rather than being able to hear it as a cohesive whole. It seems like it still needs some sonic glue, but I don't know for sure.

Listened several times so far and will continue checking it out.

.

I agree with this. It's not gelling for me. I can't quite pinpoint it. The parts are all there and done well, it's just not locked in yet. Just needs more mixing.

I had another listen.

This tune is really cool, specially around the chorus.
at times it reminds me a tad of Van der graf generator.

I hear what Greg is saying about it not being mixed together, I had a few listens tonight.
The drums sounds great and bass sounds great to me.
And allthough I simply love your bass style and playing, it and the drumbeat dont lock (if I can use that word) neither of them are wrong on their own but.
The bass goes great with the guitars and the drums goes great with the guitars.

I think a more percusinate upbeat 4/4 would suit the bass better, or a more standard 4/4 bass would suit the drums better.
The best soncial example I can give, is at 3.23, gerg alternates his playing sligthly for a few seconds.
The beat he is playing there would fit that bass perfectly.

anyways thats my two cents, I might be way of:o:D

Greg_L,
I'm fiddling with it. Big Production with more boom doesn't do it at all. I'll keep at it.
heatmiser,
Sonic Glue - (I could cheat & drown it in reverb but that can be sonic gunk), I'm working on it. I know what you mean about listening to the parts rather than the sum. I just did a remix with Gerry's new solos & between his bits I'd get distracted by a drum fill or a particular bit of phrasing by Joey.
Nakatira,
I will try a modified bass line tomorrow. I fiddled about with 'cello this arvo but it started to clutter the arrangement. I have to stop for the arternoon as I'm off to a charity fete to have my 27 year old rat's tail chopped off for the princely sum collected of $500!
