rust bucket - an original oddity

Mate I used inverted commas because your selfdeprecating comments suggested you felt there wasn't any tune or arrangement worth naming.
I REALLY enjoyed the piece.

Strange you say?
More like damn near perfect if you ask me. I love everything about it and your voice on this one is hammer quality, Pete. This the most professional sounding thing I've heard from you. Great stuff, I'm really glad you post here.:)

Haha this is so awesome! Love it! Don't have really any other comments!

Thanks so much froggy! I like your new track :).

Really creative use of sounds. I loved it. Great tune.

No nits.

Whew! Thank you TripleM -good to hear.

Yeah, I'm not sure exactly. I can hear it, but only because you pointed it out and it was towards the end of the song. I don't think it's that big of a deal. By notching, I mean a deep narrow cut around 300hz - 400hz on the bass track. Try sweeping in that range and see if it cleans up. Is there a distorted guitar playing along with the bass during the verses?? Maybe try the same thing there so you get better definition on the bass.

Thanks Chili - I'll give it a go. Carving out a little bass and spreading the guitars a bit (especially at the outro) will be pretty easy to try and might improve things.

By the end, there is the bass, one stereo distorted DI guitar track, a stereo clean DI guitar track, a distorted "lead" bass mono track and two mono mic'd acoustic guitar tracks (not to mention percussion!) and none of them are in unison - so, it gets a little busy and crowded in there :).

I've listened to this several times and I have to say I like it better every time I listen. It does sound a little like Beck, but I like that sound real well. The beginning to me is cool as hell. Everytime I hear it though, I feel like the song Magic Carpet Ride is about to kick in. It isn't dead on that tune or nothing, but it has the same feel as that intro. Great song. I say keep it the way it is.

Trump

Thank you Trump! Oh my word...there is a little bit of steppenwolf in the intro thing isn't there? Like you said - not the same, but a similar feel. They start the song at just the right moment though, whereas I think I kind of trailed off too soon with the noise and left the tune kind of hangin' for a bit there...thanks again.

Cheers ray - I think I was trying to funny, but definitely a bit self conscious too. I feel sufficiently reassured. TY.

Awww. At this rate I'm going to go from self-deprecating to arrogant asshole in one thread. :p Thanks so much joey - I'm really glad you like it :).

So, quite a few people seem to think it's fine as is, but also a lot of good suggestions which, although I have yet to post a remix or anything , I am still mulling over. Just wanted to convey that of course I really appreciate all the input - very helpful. Also, if I don't revise the tune it doesn't mean that your input wasn't valued, I may just not be able to make the changes work. I will post a new link if I can incorporate anything new.

Dude.... Yeah... I dig this lots. Love almost everything about it. Very "cruising down the street listening to stuff that makes me feel carefree" - ish.

Great job!

Typing as I listen:

  • Intro thingy - RUSTY
  • Verse - Very Beck-ish. Likelikelikelike! Awesome thickness.
  • After verse (acoustic tracks) - Nice and clear. Cool separation.
  • Very nice use of the kazoo.
  • Wah guitars sound nice. Cool jam out at the end.

A little bit o mud in the low mids. Maybe knock the 200 hz range down a tad.

Man, I say don't change anything - that was awesome. Great song, great recording, great mix, great vocal: you certainly have your own sound. I'd happily listen to hours of your stuff.

Cool - thanks PI! I'm gald you dug it and appreciate the feedback. Feel free to let me know what didn't work for you if you have time. I suspect you're pretty busy though - haven't heard a new track from you in while...?

Thanks for the good word quibble! I'm going to try to work on this again this weekend and see if I can carve out some more space and clean up the low end any...not sure I can without messing up though :o :)!

Whoa...awesome bagpipe - thanks so much for the encouragement.

Trust me, I've listened to my stuff for hours and it isn't something I'd recommend :)!
