a new addition (well not so new) to the portable tube amp head market....

Disclaimer- I didn't even bother reading the review.

I was at an Andy Timmons clinic last month, and he did a quick demonstration of this amp. Goddamn. If you want a low-wattage bluesy sort of amp, this is it - it did great Fender-y and Vox-y clean-to-kinda-gritty stuff, and then had a classic smooth Mesa saturated lead sound on tap, too. You'd probably want to run it with a boost as it wasn't terribly high gain, but what a great sounding amp head.

The fact Andy Timmons was plugged into it, and that Andy Timmons is basically a walking songbook, certainly didn't hurt. :D

You got that right. I've read a few reviews over there and ALL of them have been worthless.

This is a forum for the exchange of information. The rules forbid spamming yet we have to put up with these worthless threads as well as half the screen real estate dedicated to ads and promoting Audiofailzine.

Still, no reason we can't hijack it. :D

It really WAS a pretty damned cool head, one I'd love to spend some time playing with. About the only thing it didn't do was a conventional "heavy" rhythm sound, but even so I bet the Vox-inspired mode with the gain up and an OD out front could get you some interesting metal-like tones.

And, a $800 brand-new Mesa is not something to shake a stick at.

there's lots of interest in his head right now...

and it's a great thing, to post interviews of gear, that others can check out.

I actually did - they sort of missed the point, I think.

This is one of my big issues with the rise of modeling gear - amps are now expected to do everything. They dock it for not doing "extreme" chug type stuff, but from Mesa's persepctive, if you're after that sound you buy their Rectifier, Mark-V, or Stiletto. This is more of a classic rock amp, designed for clean to moderate gain and poweramp saturation.

Alsy the myriad of front-panel switches is sort of a staple of the Mesa line.

Why ask me what I think of the spamming going on in these boards if you're only going to move all reference to both the question and the answer?

While we're on the subject of deleting stuff though, don't you normally delete product and organisation spam threads and posts? Sure if it was related to a discussion I can see the point in them, but unsolicited threads and posts surely they have to go?

I'm certainly no apologist for commercial interest, but really, I don't see any harm in this thread. I'm okay with the right-hand ads, too, as long as they don't slow the site down.

As for the amp, I am both overwhelmed and underwhelmed- underwhelmed (midly- it seems to be a decent amp) but the amp, but overwhelmed by the price. Nine hundred clams- whew! Too much for the Scot in me.
