Distortion Recording Electronic Drums.. =(

Have you tried going direct into the presonus yet?

Yep, it's not THAT bad, but it's far from perfect...
Also, when I'm recording songs, it'd be ok just to have the two inputs on the PreSonus, but I make videos for youtube with my girl, and I play a guitar while we both sing, so I'll need 3channels...

Another thing... I was looking at some sites, found this one http://www.tweakheadz.com/how_to_hookup_a_mixer.htm
They talk about this mixer model, which is kinda like mine, and they tell you to go from the FX Send out to the SoundCard... Thing is: this way it only seems to record the left channel... So, what the heck?!
I'm really about to just go ahead and try getting either a new soundcard with 2 channels, that won't gimme the hissing, or a soundcard with a lotta inputs...

No one else has this model?! I desperately need help =(
Sorry but I don't know what else to do... or who to go to.

Thanks again for your patience and time.

That's called a fader. If you are connecting the main output of the mixer to the presonus, that is the control that adjusts the level.

Noise and hum? I thought the problem was distortion. The hum is probably a ground loop. Plug the mixer into the same outlet as the computer (and the presonus, if it plugs into the wall), that might clear it up.

It could also be a gain staging problem. When you have multiple units connected together, you need to regulate the signal level coming into and going out of each piece. If you have the signal backed way off on one thing and then brought back up on another, you could introduce all kinds of noise and goofyness.

Set the output of the drum module to 3/4.
Set the master output fader ot 0db, set the channel level knob to 0db
Set the input (the gain control next to the line in) on the mixer so that you are lighting up the 0db light but not the clip light.
Turn the gain knobs on the presonus all the way down
Look at the meters in garage band and make sure you ae not going into the red. If you are, turn down the master fader at the board until you aren't.

If you still have the noise, then it's the presonus

Probably, but you really shouldn't have to. Two passive direct boxes are going to cost you somewhere around $50-$75, which is almost half the price of the presonus. It might be better to spend your money on a better interface that works properly.

Hello friend,
First I'd like to say i really appreciate all the help and attention...
And, yeah, another thing is, I'm from Brazil and these kind of products are slightly more expensive down here. For instance, if I am to buy 2 direct boxes, I'll be paying about 150$... What a pain, huh? =/
And a soundcard like the Presonus will be about 400$... Things are at best twice as much expensive here... =/

Anyways... Well, I'm gonna try doing that again, but yeah... I did try those, and problem problem... =/
I'd also like to mention this youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UT5pFH8znAg
In which this guy has kinda the same issues, and yeah, he curses a lot.

It seems people usually have problems with this interface... =/ But then again, I'm a big noob to home recording, these are my first equips and well, maybe part of it is my fault, who knows... It's just a little frustrating, huh? It's been a year or so, that I have the equip and all, and I can't get rid of the noises... =/

If nothing is connected to the PreSonus, and you select high volumes on the Mics, it will give bad noise... If you have the Mics at lower than half volumes and something connected to it, as the Mixer, even with everything at ZERO, you will have noise... =/ And as you increase the fader, or the channel level or gain, noise gets worse, and it can lead to distortion during instrument playing.

Oh well... =(

Thanks again for the best support I've ever had through this issue.

Guys, for the last 30mins or so, been playing with my bass, though my multi effects Boss ME-20, straight to the Audiobox, no Mixer...
And, OMG... Such difference... Feels perfect... Still gotta test the drums, guitars, etc. But been reading on theses, and it seems like my mixer may be way too active for my AudioBox's inputs, makes any sense? Maybe I'm doing some stupid connections? Should something be in between those two? I feel like I'm getting somewhere! I'm very excited about it!
Thanks again, guys!!!

Which outs are you using on the mixer? The 1/4" mains? Are the fx turned off on the mixer?

I was using those!
But, man! I think I finally got it!!!
I used RCA cables going out the TAPE Out, that in other tip are 1/4"!!!
Sound is SO much better now!!!
=)
I think this is it! =)))

That's good. Still weird though. Must have something to do with the levels coming out of the 1/4" connections.
