Hi All,

I have been recording for awhile now using a HP pavilion a230n-
specs-

AMD Athlon XP 2800+2.08 GHz
1 Gig Ram
seagate 120 Gig HDD
M-audio delta 66 SC

I am running sonar 6PE as well as some soft synths for orchestral and drum triggering. I am looking for recommendations for a replacement comp (tower only) that will play nicely with my SC and software-that will offer me more power/processing capability as my current PC has become very slow and is having trouble handling the demands of the synth plugins and bigger projects. My budget is sub $500.00 and i am open to purchasing either off the shelf or barebones...any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I will be running win XP sp3 and this would be a multi use comp as well as a DAW.

Dig around the M-Audio site to make sure there arn't any specific motherboards that have issues. Then if you can build your own. Get the simplest MB you can without a bunch of onboard crap, and work your way up from there. If you just plan on junking the old one you could probably reuse the case and power supply which would save you $100 - $150. Then buy the biggest processor, Fastest hard drive and most RAM you can afford.

If you don't feel comfortable building your own find a local computer shop and tell them what you want.

I would avoid getting an HP, Dell, Gatway etc. just because you probably don't need half the crap they come with.

Thanks Tetra, i will consider this if going the build-my-own route....can anyone else offer an opinion, who may have recently picked up an off the shelf tower from a major manufacturer and pared down the bloatware with good results-if so what are you using?

I wouldn't if I were you, but if you do, I doubt it will make much difference which one you choose.
