The hardware devices are called 'control surfaces.' There are quite a few of them out there. I'm sure you can find one in your price range. Zzounds, MusiciansFriend, etc should have a few in stock. Your local music shop might also have a couple.
I'm currently using the Presonus Faderport. It's a single fader controller, but there are others with much more.

The cheapest thing, because of how many they sold, might be to by a keyboard that has faders. I have a M-Audio Evolution MK-461C and it's got 9 faders as well as 12 knobs, plus a keypad and it's a keyboard too. So even if you don't play keyboards they are useful just for the switches that you can assign to your computer.

If you buy Behringer then buy knobs, rather than sliders. At low prices, motorized faders can break but knobs might be more sturdy over the long term.

I used to have a Tascam US-2400. Motorized faders, flashing lights....I felt like Mr. Sulu. That thing was the shiznit. It was also my least used piece of equipment being that I was too lazy to lean forward to use the faders half the time, and just used the mouse. I was also about to get taken to court for a large sum of money, so I sold it. Good piece of kit though if you can find one. They don't make them anymore but often pop up on ebay and are in quite high demand. I think I actually sold mine at a profit.

Well, you could use what the pro's have been using all that time..its called a MIXER.
Of course, anyone younger than 25 doesn't have a clue what ANALOG is...or how much fun it is. And how easy it is. And how much better it sounds...oh, wait a minute..I forgot. You all listen to MP3's anyway...so you wouldn't know quality if you heard it.

Were not all morons, you know.
Mixer control surfaces always seemed a bit of a waste of money to me, anyway. You're essentially paying for the (admittedly wonderful) pleasure of knob-twiddling; money that could go toward some nice monitors or a new condenser mic, or anything else which would actually improve your sound quality.

I really liked that Tascam unit, but I was in the market for an interface as well. Settled on the Alesis Mastercontrol. Great piece of equipment!
