Sounds pretty good on my computer speaks. This song really works as far as the openness of the tune. Cool stuff.

you are both in row E...its an emerg escape so read the pamphlet please

You definitely make some cool sounding stuff, but why do I feel like I need to take ecstasy to really appreciate it fully?

Side note digression: I saw this ad the other day, and immediately thought " I bet kcearl would love this tool".

Thanks GZ...i think you're OK with a cocktail when its tame house music like this, you're a cocktail man aren't you? :D

looks a cool wee softsynth...but I'm almost completely outboard other than drum samples....I've got my first "true" analogue on its way...I bet it sounds shite! :)

your seat is D06 with complimentary Mai Tai......:drunk:

Why are your songs so long? ... Maybe that's just how this genre rolls?

Yup. I didn't get the whole trance, techno, house vibe thing until I quit trying to jam it into my paradigm of "rock" music.

Most of the trance jams I listen to on a regular basis are over 10 minutes long, and I wish they were longer. I can't really describe what I'm going to try to describe at all, but... This type of music becomes a drone in your head. It becomes part of your minds processes. Dude... This isn't making any sense. This is what I know.

1. I can't listen to rock and do anything else at the same time. The music becomes the focus, and I have to stop whatever I'm doing in order to listen to the music.

2. When I listen to trance music, I get *more focused* at doing whatever it is I'm doing. If I'm coding away at my day-job, I generally code faster and better when I listen to trance. If I'm driving, I get more zoned into the nuances of my Mustang, and tend to drive a bit faster.

So... Yeah... Sorry for belaboring my inability to communicate at all. Trance music is in a whole different musical world than rock is - for me.

Okay.. Now on to the critique.

At first, I thought I wasn't gonna like this one either, Keith.. And then the bongos came in. Perfect rhythm syncopation with the bass and beat.. Lovin' it.. (still a bit too jumpy for my usual selection of trance)...

I'm noticing that the fundamental bass line isn't 100% on rhythm.. Was that recorded acoustic?

Hmmm... @ 2:20 now, and there are too many tracks mimic'ing the bass line... Main "melody" (if you call it that) is a bit too busy for me...

Okay.. Starting a new movement at 3:40... I like this one better. Yeah.. I could get into this one... Where's the bass-line? Ahh There it is... @ 4:10... Same one.. Hrmm... I probably would have put a different bassline in there, and made it a two-part song...

@ 4:45, I'm missing a 16-beat hat or something going 16-beat. maybe a tambourine?

Yeah... @ 5:30, this is getting a bit messy... Too many layers for my taste..

I love that space-pad you use... (is really evident @ 6:19-6:39, flowing from left to right.. Love that sound)...

Okay.. Ending now.. Not bad... But never really gets into the pocket, either..

Pretty much 100% of my critique is on my personal preferences.. Your mix is spot on. I wouldn't change a thing with the levels. You're getting better. I really like the snare sample sound on this one, too.

I don't mean to hi-jack the thread with this, but I'm gonna post my all-time favorite trance song, just to give you a reference to what really hits the spot for me.

great critique!

Thanks for the listen and post PI, very informative and thought out

I admit i dont think this one is in the pocket...I enjoyed it right up until mixing then it all gets/got a little messy..fought it ever since

I may revisit it, I may use the percussion on something else or I may just scrap it if I cant do anything with it or get it to sit right (could be a filler on my second album lol)

the bass was played live at first and there's no quantisation, well spotted, i wanted it to feel a bit more human, same with the follow synth bass..too much though, and too "the same" by the sounds of it..I even tried human variation in the percussion but its not that noticeable..Ill have a look at adding something on the 16th...another clap might work??

no snare on it...but claps sound so similar its easy to mistake one for the other...maybe changing that coming into the break would help?

I know what you are saying about trance, the problem is using that as your reference to other material...this is old school house, in fact there isnt even an arp in it and general build up rules change slightly...no prolonged rise...the beats off, second kick comes in on a latin rhythm to match the percussion...real piano rather than synth..other small genre specific things may alter your perception, may just be an excuse :D

i suppose i should stick at what I get right but most of these tracks had their beats worked out months ago while I was in Asia so its kinda mapping their progress a little (and why im producing them so quickly)

Ive got maybe another to finish then Im going to go back to more trancy stuff as it maybe the genre I find easier

thanks for your time dude, as always its very much appreciated and you get to sit with the captain at the front ;)

if I do something drastic with it mind if i PM you to revisit it? I may just pull a few layers out and try some Jupiter strings or something instead of that following bass synth....

again why i love this place...I knew there was something far wrong with this I just needed conformation...

put a layer of filtered vintage pad in (Ill prolly change it later when i have more time) dropped that bass synth till the very end and move somethings around a little...now Im much happier with it already...cant believe i was considering scrapping it because I couldnt mentally make more cuts..amateur  bit sparser but better for it

will add more percussion after the breakdown when I get back home

:)

Okay... Listening now, and from the very beginning, it sounds like a different tune in a good way. Hits the pocket up until the entrance of the main melody sound at 1:03. This sound, to me, was way way too dominant. I like the melody line, but the sound is way too concrete and prominent. If it were me, I'd keep that melody line, but fade it down a bit, and make the sound a reverbish ethereal afterthought instead of main centered melody. Also - dude - use your panning. You're dealing with electronic instruments here. I should rarely, if ever, hear two sounds in the same space. Widen that sound out to the max and then use some spacializers to widen it even more, and then automate the panning of the 2nd or 3rd layer reverbs....:D

The addition of the instrument @ 2:07 was almost indiscernible due to the aforementioned melody line..

The instrument coming in @ 2:38 is great. I'd be slowly panning it all over the place.

The breakdown @ 3:07 - add a funky slap bass sound over that beat and keep the bass going an extra measure or two before ya cut it. (love the beat, BTW).. Also - somewhere at this point, I'd put that panning ethereal buzzing sound back in.

Nice re-entrance @ 3:36. Yup, yup yup... This is hittin' it, bro.

Yup... Still groovin' @ 4:10...

Nice piano-add @5:09. Might wanna kick that piano up a bit.. Not too audible...

Hmmm.. For some reason @ 5:45, this is sounding too repetitive. Maybe because I'm nitting too much... I'll have to listen to this ...

Ah yeah... Nice change up @ 6:16. Yeah... great... Nice contrast.. Heh.. that was the instrument I hated earlier, wasn't it? Coming in at the end was a very nice touch.

Yup.. Much, much better. Keep at it, Keith. Glad ya decided to not scrap the whole thing. This is on its way.

Oh.. And I almost forgot... Hip-hip hooray! I've got a seat in the cockpit! :p :laughings:

I can definitely hear this thumpin in a club.
Cool change ups and solid bottom end. (the song mister :p )

It's not often I can actually come to the Clinic but I got off work, came home and found the computer....EMPTY of juvenile turds and was blessed by hearing your goodz.

:laughings: :laughings: :laughings:

ok...that was a bit much :)

Not my norm to listen to but this sounds good man. ;)
:drunk:

Pretty cool man. By the way, did you get that Monotron thingy? I wanna hear what you can do with that thing. :p

you were too quick i was just trying to see if a pad worked, thought hell its better than what Ive got online so stick it up :D

i just made a pad for it and its what i was looking for, plenty of movement and filter loveliness (I love my JV)..almost too good for a house tune :o

added a bit of tambourine and layered the clap with a 909 after the breakdown...not sure about that little saw sound anymore...thats why i keep making it quite...i think Ill revisit this after the weekend...its not a dead dodo so thats kewl and plenty tweaking to be done..talk about a work in progress lol

you can fly the fucking thing after all your listens dude :D
