I am looking to purchase an interface to work multi-track with adobe audition. I would like to get something relativly cheep for now as I am just starting with the home recording and dont want to throw a bunch of money into something until I am sure I can do it. I would perfer something that can handle recording at least 4 seperate tracks at the same time, obviously the more the better as I eventually want to build up a complete home studio, but for now I just need something that can do the basics, and not kill my bank account. I do not know what I am looking for though when I look online, so I figured I would ask here for help. Thanks all.

awesome, thanks, I'm pretty sure that's my new favorite website

budget? If you can save up about $500~$600 you'll get your pick of decent 8 channel interfaces with preamps that you'll find useful for a long time to come...

yeah I found a nice bundle with a TASCAM US-1641, some monitors and a couple mics for right around 500, and it comes with cubase so hey, all I need to get started!

I use and love my Phonic Helix 18 universal.

Only thing I wish it had was the ability to not only record 16 channels but play back 16 channels. Not the end of the world, as it's not to hard to work around I just have to mix in the computer and send it L/R stereo output. Very very transparent mic preamps plus there is a switch for pre/post fader recording. If I remember right I ran a loop back test on it and the THD was something like .005%. I use the firewire port 90% of the time, but the USB port is handy when I haul my mixer to other peoples computer.

I can use the various AUXs to realtime monitor. Got a heck of a price on it too. Around $400 if I remember. Works well as a live mixer for your typical rock band.

I use a US-1641 and really like it. 14 inputs!
