Hey don't know if there is a thread like this one yet but it would be cool to see some kits that are out there and see what ather people are working with.

I have three sets... the other two are 50's Gretsch RB's. The set I've been using this last while:

They were patterened off of the drumset in the old Gretsch logo, with the cymbal coming straight out of the kick with no tilter.

Mostly 60's Ludwigs except the kick is a 26" 70's Slinger. All calf heads top and bottom except for the kick front. Mostly 50's K. Zildjians. 1930's Chinese tom. All the stands are vintage Walberg and Auge. The set makes you feel like you are driving a small train. I have triggers on them for an Alesis D4 if I need that.

The pic on the front was traced off of a painting my Grandpa did in the 1950's, and the light helps keep the calf head stable.

I hate the red wrap on the kick - that's coming off for sure, so is the front plastic head (which is actually a tymp head).

Love the splash on the kick!!! Kit is sick. I agree with the red being out of place. That is a kit with much history. What more can you ask for.

So, Dintymoore,
Do your floor toms do a hula while you're playing? :laughings:

Well, I had a chick singer threaten to use a weed wacker on them.

Check this out: awhile ago I sent a pic of my floor toms to a musician friend. We ended up going back and forth with the usual stupid comments like I should put some pink panties on the bottom head etc...

The last email I sent to him about it was that I should get a rubber dong and have it peaking out the bottom. I know, hilarious. :laughings: And when I went to send the email to my friend by accident I also sent it to a sax player I knew...

who also...

is a minister. No shit.

gulp

He was actually very cool about it.

One of life's embarassing moments.

Hah! I figured it was to keep, I dunno, the hats cool or something? :o Stupid I know, but as soon as September hits here I'll be drumming with the heating on.

At your better clubs, the stage has a drum riser. They also have stage lighting. And that riser is to the rear of the stage near those hot lights. This puts the drummer away from ventilation, and up higher and closer to those lights. Us drummers can't walk around and find the cool spot on the stage and camp out there. Not only do we have the most physical job on stage, we have to sit there in the back getting cooked by the lights. I bring two squirrel cage fans and put them on each amp stack to my right and left. It's damn near a hurricane back there, but it keeps me cool. I still get soaked, but it's okay. These trials and tribulations are what make drummers the badasses of any band. :)

What's my kit like? Thunder in the night, baby. Thunder in the night.

You gotta respect the drummers and percussionists for this. Playing rhythm guitar on acoustic always left me roasting with all that arm movement, even outdoors in winter, so what the drummers have to go through is way, way more than double plus - unless they're the soft shoe shuffle type.

I'm gonna put myself out there as a newb but I just started stretching before any time I step on the kit. I am too young (26) to be experiencing pain in my joints and I equated it to (side note: I've been a chef for years on my feet for 11hrs/day on average) my drumming. An old school cat that I really look up to gave me this advice: "you stretch before you run, and you sweat. You stretch before you play sports, and you sweat. Why on God's green earth would you not stretch before you sweat on your kit?!" Just a thought

p.s. Greg is 1000% right about the fans. It gets even worse if you're playing behind a cage in a large stage setting. And it stinks!!! it could just be my g.a.s though.

This will be my last post on this thread (stopping grinning greg)

There has to be more real drummers out there who wanna show what they are working with.

Respectfully declined as an O.P.

I'm waiting for my new mics to get here. I'll take a picture of my budget set-up then!
