Correct way to connect TS808Pedal to Mesa head and cab

Hey all,

Quick question.

Just bought a Mesa Boogie Triple Rect head and the Mesa Boogie 4x12 straight cab. I have it up and running, sounds LOUD haha and pretty damn good. I just bought a Ibanez TS808 pedal to control a bit of the sound and was wondering how I would set it all up. What cables should I use and in what order does everything get connected? (since I needed speaker cable from the head to the cab, I don't want to set it up wrong and risk messing up the amp).

Guitar - instrument cable to in of Ibanez TS808. instrument cable from the OUT to the IN of the Mesa head input on front. Speaker cable 8ohmz out to cab 8ohmz in??

Or do I set it up using the FX IN and Out on the back of the Mesa head somehow?

What channels do I use it on? I'm looking to record metal. Channel 3? anyone recommend any settings?

Thank you for taking the time to respond!! Appreciate it!

well....... firstly, this should be in the guitar and bass section, secondly why would you use a tube screamer on a triple recitifier Boogie? I think you can shape the sound well enough without adding another distortion.

I don't think it's a good idea to use the distortion in an effects loop, I'm not sure, whenever I've used a distortion it always sounded better going straight into the amp, not the effects loop.

Well I really appreciate the first few guys making fun of me/laughing at me for seeking help from this forum. Makes me really want to stick around...

so thanks!

sk8erboi, you'll get gentler treatment in the newbies forum if you have newbie questions, which this is... or perhaps, as suggested, the guitar forum

You're getting facepalmed because you're in a recording forum and you're asking how to hook up a stomp box... if that's where you are on the journey, recording's a bit of a way off for you..

Try the other forums.

They're nice guys really.

I'd personally like to thank you for allowing them to reveal the next stage in the facepalm series, however... I was expecting a triple, but this is magic.. :D

I've been recording for a little while, just switched to the mac side/protools from pc/cubase. Plus bought a new amp and was wondering how to set it up incase with a pedal the way I thought was the wrong way and I mess the amp up.

Instead of making fun of me and NOT SAYING ANYTHING AFTER. Couldn't I have atleast got an answer after?? That's what I'm complaining about.. and now you make fun of my user name?

I posted the exact same thing on another forum and I got like 4 answers that helped me out... You guys should re-think how you treat the people who don't post much, or the new people because sooner or later it's going to be just a few of you with thousands of posts, but no one new. Same old guys. That's actually exactly what happened to this Video forum that I checked out now and then.

I realize all of you who made fun of me may not care at all, but I don't think I'll return to this forum because of how I was treated. Do moderators even care at all?

I'm sorry that I posted it in the wrong area, but I'm about to start doing some recording tests. I've played with this amp many times already and love it. Was wondering how to set up the pedal so I can begin recording. I guess that's why I posted in the Recording area.

Thank you Leaningpine for actually giving a f*ck.

dude .... relax a bit and have a slight sense of humor.

Making fun of your user name? I thought it was an homage...

Your question would have been answered in the guitar forum - this is the recording forum - you're assuming that everyone in here plays electric guitar and even knows what a Tube Screamer is, let alone how to connect it properly to an amp.

I'm sure you've worked it out already but effects loops are generally best used for time based effects, rather than distortion effects...

However, as is often said, there are no rules.. try both, perhaps you'll find something usable via the effects loop

Good luck and don't be angry... lighten up, it's a fun place, really...

Ok here is your answer. Your original post sounds phony to me. I find it very hard to believe that someone would fork out the amount of cash required to purchase that rig and then come to an internet forum to ask how to hook it up correctly. If you don't know how to use a TS808 then why did you buy it? How did you come to the conclusion that you needed it?

By reading many posts on random sites suggesting that the pedal is a great investment for cleaning up the sound from a mesa head and cab.

I know how to set the amp up, I was unclear on the proper way to use a pedal of this type.

I thought my post was fair. All I was asking was to confirm what I was saying. Incase it was wrong, I'd like people with more knowledge to help me out... so I don't risk ruining the amp I spend all this money on...

I'm assuming that the people who made fun of me know exactly the solution, yet laughed at me instead of helping.

So what I posted it in the wrong spot. big deal. Couldn't tell me I was in the wrong spot, laughed about it and then helped me out? Instead 4 you with thousands of posts ignore my questions?? GREAT

lolllll @ CAPITAL LETTERSSS!!!!!!!!!!!

You really should just chill. Just make sure you're posting in the right section, and don't e-yell at board members if you want future help from them. ;)

I asked for help without "e-yelling" and all I got was made fun of.

I don't care that they made fun of me. I care that they went out of their way to make fun of me and then didn't even make an effort to help me out in anyway...

I know how to use the amp. It works great and sounds great. After doing research, I found that a lot of people were using that pedal to further tone the sound they wanted from the rig.

The pedal only cost me $100. I was curious on how to set it up before it arrived...

Notice how I said quick question? Because I was expecting a quick "Yes you're right, that's how you hook it up"... or "No, you don't want to do that, but here's how..." from a forum that is suppose to help you out.

And I'm not angry or upset at all.. I simply found it strange that a forum would laugh at someone who was unsure of something and then not provide help. It's amazing how LT. Bob made fun of my post, then followed up on telling me to relax and have a sense of humor, yet has still not helped out at all. I can see that his 4000+ posts must have been really unhelpful if they were the same as in thread.

With all that aside... Thank you to the people who tried to answer.

man ..... you're way overreacting. You already knew how to hook it up ...... you described it specifically .... so you didn't NEED any help. If you actually NEEDED any help you'd have gotten it.
Have a sense of humor or follow through on your threat to not come here.
You're gonna get picked on .... you think I haven't had anyone mess with me?
Difference is, I have a sense of humor.

Dude .... you're full of crap. I simply laughed about a post someone else made and SAID nothing about your post whatsoever so you can quit with the whining. You're gonna single me out when I was simply the second person to laugh at a post that ocnor made?
:laughings:

Thank you for posting on my thread and not helping me!

I was asking for confirmation. Yes, I knew how to hook it up, I've used pedals before. I wanted to be safe with the new amp and make sure 100% that I knew how. That is all. That's why it is ridiculous that it took this much to get an answer from you guys. (Not including the people who did actually give me an answer.)
I am sorry that I lack a sense of humor in your guy's opinions. It's just frustrating when the pedal arrives and I know how to hook it up, just want to confirm what I'm doing is correct - which takes less than 10 seconds for a reply to help me out. I was looking for an answer, not to laugh, or lighten up, or relax. I was excited about new equipment.

I've hooked it up based on the other forum that responded in a couple hours after I made the thread and actually provided useful information. Bottom line is you guys took forever to help me, I needed to complain to get an answer, yet posted the same thing in another forum and instantly got an answer. It works great. I love the sound.

The people who were no help continue to believe that what they did was useful to me, since they keep getting defensive after every post I make instead of saying something like "Yea, maybe I could have laughed, but after wards provided some useful information to help you out, instead of further continuing being of no use post after post". I'm sure you get the idea.
