I have a MIDI keyboard controller that I can connect to my laptop with a USB cable and would like to be able to trigger samples(mp3's, wav's stored on laptop) to record with Cool Edit Pro multitrack alongside stuff recorded with a microphone. What software or equipment do I need and how do I set it all up? I need a simple and definite solution as I am easily confused.:D

If I recall, CoolEdit doesn't do midi (not to mention, they stopped selling CoolEdit almost 10 years ago when Adobe bought em out). Look into Reaper. MIDI isn't Reaper's strong suit, but it'll probably be sufficient for you and a legit copy is only $60 (with a free unlimited trial).
