Hey guys,
So I'm building a studio and I already know what I want, but I kinda want to overview it before I actually do it. Haha. But anyways, here it is. Its just a layout, I'm not worried about the space, but yeah its just a layout. I'm only doing this layout because say like 3 people are sitting at the "Sitting" area and talking, not YELLING, but talking just at a regular voice, and the guys spitting, will the voices be picked up. Hopefully not. Haha but anyways, heres the layout. Thanks guys.

You could try using Hammer to see it like it's real. PM me if you want to. I'll explain more. :)

PMed you. If it has anything to do with DLing, I need to ask a friend first. Lol. But anyways, anybody else got any comments ? I just want to know if this set-up would work if I have 3-4 friends at the sitting area talking a room voice while one guy is spitting / recording. And the voices of US wont get recorded. Haha.

Dimensions?

You'd be better off putting your desk along the short wall so that your monitors fire down the length of the room. Seat/sofa can go down one of the long walls. Get some acoustic treatment in there, and then it would be better to record in the larger room than to shut yourself in a box.

In terms of isolation... what is this "sound proofing foam" that you talk about? I think you're underestimating what you'd need to do in order to get proper isolation.

As I think I said before, simply tell your friends to shut up or scoot when you're recording. I don't care if your friends are YELLING or talking in a normal voice - if both you are all serious about getting a good recording done, you should be more than willing to do the really difficult thing of keeping quiet once in a while!

If you do want to be able to natter whilst someone is recording then you'd need to put more than "sound proofing foam" into the construction of your vocal booth (as well as hefty amounts of acoustic treatment inside to stop it from sounding like you've shut yourself in a box).

It seems like PMing doesn't ever work. I tried to send 2 then you said you sent me one and nothing shows in my inbox. So give me your AIM, MSN, or Yahoo details in this thread and I'll show you what I mean and send you pictures of examples. :)

Ah ha, sorry, the only IM account I have is a Windows Live Messenger one and I'm not even sure I can remember my login details. I'll see if I can find it and then PM you with them.

Was trying to keep distractions and procrastination to a minimum though :p Got some ridiculously important exams in about 4 weeks time and had set up a scheduled block of a few websites (including this one), though I disabled it this morning because it kicked in just as I was making a post and I've kinda got distracted and forgotten to re-enable it since then

I could let you use an old one of mine, but like I said, PM's won't work. So I guess both you add me on msn, Broth3rz@Hotmail.com

Yeah I know what you mean. I mean, I'm not trying to get in all the dimensions and all that. It's just a sketch, I mean. Like if it will do. And what do you mean by acoustic treatment. Haha as you can see by my rep, I'm still new / a newbie. But yeah. If you can explain that to me, than that would be great!

Yeah...rotate your listening position/desk to the short wall, facing down the length of the space...and lose the "booth" or whatever that is.
You will kill what little space you have with a booth..just tell the people sitting on the couch to STFU during tracking. :)

How big is the space exactly...is this a single-car garage space?

And yeah, if it's all cement floor/block walls, un-insulated roof area and typical garage door...you have some work to do AFA acoustic treatment...and maybe even some soundproofing (if inside/outside noise is an issue).

Like I said, PMing doesn't work. I didn't get any nor can I send any. Just post your Messenger details here, then when I have them delete/edit the post to take them off.

This is something I made just a few minutes ago. It's just a hallway with a door leading to a room that's like a rest up room, just to eat, drink, etc. Ignore the lights and how thick that door is on the one side. I'm doing this for my Studio and of course the lighting and textures, everything will be perfect.

Uhh, Its a 2 car garage, but I get half. I mean, i'm not trying to do it BIG BIG, just for fun, but it can make a mixtape that sounds good. You know? Like I'm not trying to go BIG and use this studio for the rest of my life if Im famous, I'm just trying to have a little studio that can get the job done, but nothing fancy. Just something to get the job done. And yes it's cement, but I'm going to put rugs so you can see the cement. Than for the ceilings, it's also un-insulated. I can add foam to it if that changes anything. I mean, I'll tell my boys to STFU but yeah, I just want it to sound good and get the job done, but I don't need it professionally. You know?

Yeah that's about it. Don't have MSN or any of that.

I know what you are saying...but here's the thing...*good sound* doesn't change or come any easier/differently whether you are doing it for fun or professionally.
IOW...there are going to be certain steps you will have to take in order to get that good sound...at any level. :)

It being a 2-car...will you be putting up a wall between the two halves (which is how it looks in your diagram, like a single garage)..or will there be open space between both halves?

Don't waste time with foam in the ceiling/roof cavity...it will do little or nothing. The time/effort/cost it will take to put up foam...you might as well put up proper insulation that will really help you case.

You can leave the cement floor bare (it's actually not a bad thing)...but you would need to do something about the cement block walls.

Yeah I know. And no, its an open space. I met to put the line as a walkway, sorry. And Yeah how much is the insulation going to cost you think? Because I'm on a budget and yeah. And so that booth is bad news I'm guessing? And I have a question, how come on youtube, people just have booths randomly out in the open with little foam and it sounds fine?
