Hi guys, new to the forum and after some advice from you kind people.

I currently have a dated system, Core 2 Duo and, well the rest of the machine isn't worth listing because it needs updating so...here's where I need advice on and I still need to keep my Delta 1010LT in mind and I've been told by carillon that M-Audio made 2 versions which may determine if it works or not in newer machines, 1 with 3V and the other a 5v? anyhows here we go. thanks in advance.

1. i7 is the way to go but which one? i920/30/40/60
2. RAM, 1333 or 1600 and 6 or 12GB?
3. 7200RPM HDD Or 10000RPM?
4. Firewire or USB 3.0?

Here's a little about my needs...I compose Dance music mainly and want longevity out of the system, I use allot of plugins including waves diamond bundle that once you get past around 10 inserts (at the moment) the system lags + on top of that I need to ensure software synths can run smoothly etc. If I have to bounce one more track to audio before I add another insert I might, just might pencil dive out of my studio window. Cheers chaps, hope you can help. Oh, budget wise, 1500-2000 :D any other components you think of then please do add. I do have, mixing desk, midi controller so just system components :D

I won't share my limited knowledge on 1, 2 and 3, but I'd advise going with firewire. You'll have less compatibility issues with interfaces, external drives, and everything else you could plug in.

Although, if you're getting a pc, why not get slots for both?
