So he turned out to be a midget Jahova's witness... so what, he was only in my closet for a few days.. I dont know why people keep bringing that up...

ANYWAY...

I bought a Tascam 2400 24 track recorder a few months back not really knowing what else I would need to record. My goal is to just have a decient rig I can use to record tracks from my guitar, bass and drum machine and have good enough quality to post my songs out on facebook or myspace or whatever for my family and friends to listen to if they feel inclined to do so.

So what else do I need? I know I want to get a set of monitors and a good pair of headphones... do I need a mixer with the tascam 2400? Do I need a pre-amp?

Sometime in the future I might add a live vocal track, what else do I want?

I noticed no mention of microphones on your list of possible recording needs.
So maybe a matching set of SDC and a LDC then a few dynamic microphones.
I'm sure others will chime in with their favorite list of mics but you only have to keep it simple at first unless money is no object. and purchasing them used like on ebay is also an option.
A simple list would be
A shure SM57,and SM58 for dynamic.
A rode NT1a / or a MXL V67g for a LDC
and for the SDC match set, Apex 185-sp2 series.

Now have fun when that troll returns.
