i appear to have a problem with getting cubase sx3 to properly recognise my ux8

for some reason, when i select it, rather than allowing me to select 8 single inputs, it gives me 4 which are split left and right.

ive tried setting all the ux8 channels to mono, but still im getting it splitting into stereo input.

i dont have this problem with sx, so at the moment im recording in sx and mixing in sx3.

has anyone else had any problems similar to this or know if its a compatibility issue?

cheers

I have the same problem with SE3 and havn't figured out how to get around it. I searched extensively for a solutiona nd couldn't find one. :(

i have tried to work my way round it for a couple of months now and its just driven me insane. im now resorting back to using cubase sx, but it just means ive got a load of other songs in sx3 that ive now got to either keep switching input devices or try and somehow save them to sx... not sure its possible to save from sx3 to sx?

I just left them all as stereo pairs and select Left or Right when assigning a mono channel to a track. My interface has 8 inputs, so with 4 stero pairs, I get all channels if I need.

In SX3, using my ProjectMix, or an 1814, either way: The VST connections panel shows 4 pairs of stereo inputs, so I just set up 8 mono ones routing 1/2 Left to Mono In 1 and 1/2 Right to Mono In 2 and so on. Same deal with the outputs - I use 1/2 as a stereo bus for the monitors, and then setup Aux 1 as 3/4 Left and Aux 2 as 3/4 Right.

I've always thought that you just get the channels however the ASIO driver-developer decided you would get them (which was an arbitrary decision for them), but then you could re-route a stereo-by-default bus to two mono ones or two mono-by-default ones to a stereo one in Cubase. Isn't that normal and how it's supposed to work? Maybe I don't get the problem...

I don't know. If I try to set them as all mono, I can only get 4 mono channels. If I set them as stereo, I can get all 8 channels, 4 stereo pairs. Can you post a screenshot of your VST Connections Inputs?

thanks,

Looks like I had it backwards in my memory - or I'm even further from understanding what's happening - or something. Everything's coming in and out as mono by default (even buses that are clearly meant to be a single stereo bus like the SPDIF I/O), but I can still mix and match those as needed (even putting 1 side of the digital pair in the same stereo bus with an anolog mono input). Some of the channels do say like... Analog 1/2 L, and Analog 1/2 R - but they're still just two mono ports that can be routed anywhere.

Nevertheless, here's the screens, in case they're helpful to somebody, I made a bunch of bizarre stereo-input buses just for gits and shiggles, and now I'm curious to see what you guys are talking about - show and tell day with your VST connections!

I'd like to be able to do what you've got; mix Mono and Stereo inputs, but I can't and still get all 8 channels.

I have a Phonic Helix 12 FW mixer, it has 4 mic inputs, 2 stereo channels (for another 4 channels) and the main outs (which I don't use). In Cubase, I can only get 4 groups of inputs to show, either stereo or mono. So, if I want to use all 8 channels, I have to make the 4 groups stereo. It's not that inconvenient because when I assign a channel to a mono track, I can just select Left or Right, but one would think I should have the ability to group the channels to what they really are, mono or stereo.

If i try to mix mono and stereo, then I lose channels because I can't get all 8.

Stupid computers...

So it lists 8 mono ins just like you'd expect when you're connecting them to stereo inputs (1 and 2 for stereo 1, 3 and 4 for stereo 2, and so on) but when you change them to mono busses then 2 suddenly actually becomes mono in 3, 3 becomes 5, and 4 becomes 7 and you just can't access the actual, physical, input ports for 2, 4, 6 and 8 anymore?

Well, that's kinda lame! It's good that you can at least make it workable, but still... seems like a bug that should be easy to fix for somebody. Stupid computers... :D
