looking for a program to mix my r&b and hip hop songs i like effects.
im kind of new to this so it must be easy to work with.
any suggestions ?

ive heard good things about reaper. i have no budget i have sonar 8 right now should i just stick with that?

yep

keep in mind that your question is like saying "I want my car to go really fast, but it's got to be easy to drive and I've no money to spend on it."

"Fast" and "easy" don't go together very well, specially if you have no budget.

Stick with Sonar and get very familiar with it . . . then it will become easier.

You probably have no budget because you have Sonar 8.

Sonar is an awesome program. And since you already have it I'd just stick with it and learn as much as you can for now. No need to invest in another one.

At this point "easy" is relative for you. Almost any program you use will seem difficult to start. However, if you do want to see what another DAW looks like, Reaper is a good start, since they offer an unrestricted demo.

Also most of the other DAW companies offer demo packages as well so you can try them and see what you like. But I think you'll find that Sonar will do everything you need. So I'd just stick with what you have. And it'll be difficult at first, but that's what forums like this are for!

id only change if you wanted a completely different type of workflow...but in general they are all pretty much the same..you'll get more out of Sonar the more time you spend with it and its effects and midi editing is excellent..

that being said for your genre and for the ability to remix in real time Ableton Live could be your bag...they offer a fully functioning demo for 30 days and and essential version for under $100..

in truth its mixing abilities let it down a little but thats where Sonar 8 comes in..just mix the stems in there....I use Abelton 8 and Sonar Studio and it works great for me

Let's get to the actual problem here so we can give some helpful answers.

Why are you looking for new recording software if you already have Sonar 8? What is it about Sonar 8 that dissatisfies you?

Chances are it is not a problem with the recording software. So if we know what caused you to start looking for new software, maybe we can tell you how to fix whatever it is.
