Big Hint: Go to the website of a professional company that builds audio computers and see what components they use.

They know what WORKS and what won't get returned or have angry customers coming after their heads.

I don't know if I'd suggest a Power PC from apple anymore even though I have an old G5 and love it. The lack of OS and software support is a worry going forward. Buying one now is voluntarliy buying into a universe of unsupported obsolesence and increasingly having to try and find hacks and workarounds to make things go

my computer has as much as i'll need for the foreseeable future, runs cubase 5 with a multitude of audio, midi, plug ins and effects with no noticeable latency and no processing problems. It has an AMD phenom black edition quad core processor, asus EVO motherboard, 8gb ram, 2TB hard drive, standard HD audio card as I use an external one (novation nio 2/4). I also have a 1gb ati radeon gpu, unnecessary but its nice to have the option of 2 hi def 40 inch screens! I'd recommend my setup to anyone looking to buy a computer that will last a while and not cost the earth. set me back about £650 4 or 5 months ago. The new intel i7 processors look good, but they are prohibitively expensive at the moment, and my amd quad core costs a lot less and certainly does the job. Hope this is useful!
