Ok so I play the drums, and I've been playing them less often due to the fact that I have nothing really substantial to work for (I'm a real goal-oriented guy). So I decided that it might be fun to record myself playing along to songs and such.

Now I've read up on everything involved with miking the kit, and i already have all the microphones. I'm using snare, 2 tom, kick, and 2 overhead mics. BUT, heres the problem. What do i do to put it all together and track on pc?

I have no clue what i need to plug the mics into and actually record. A mixer? Audio interface? Multi-track recorders?

As for software, I've dealt with audio/recording software before so I'm okay in that department (for now). I just need some pointers as to how to link my microphones to my PC.

Thanks in advance

Hi from another FNG!

I know little about computer tracking, but a classical answer is to run all of them into a mixer and output to a tape machine!

Same principles with a computer, but I can't recommend you any equipment that weighs less than 80 pounds and has a million cables coming and going to it.

If you record your drums, do you want to keep all tracks separate? If so you need a multi-track interface. Look up USB or Firewire interfaces that can do multiple tracks (for example, Presonus Firestudio). You connect mikes straight into the interface.

If you just want to record the drums as a stereo recording, porbably the easiest way is to get a USB mixer with enough channels for your needs.
