Mic Troubles

I just bought a Centrios microphone from The Source for $50. When I brought it home, I realized that it was a 1/4 inch cable, so I bought an adapter(1/4"-1/8") so it could fit into my sound card. Now when I record, it makes this weird phaser -like sound. Does anyone know how to fix this? (Bye the way, I'm using Audacity, but I've never had this problem before.)
 
It sounded like maybe this mic is causing an impedance mismatch...you should maybe look into an interface instead of going in through a soundcard.
 
Is the mic the only difference? I've had issues like that between various upgrades of audacity. You might try turning off a few extras in audacity. Software playthrough, play other tracks while recording new one, and such and see if that helps. You might also check project bitrate versus soundcard capabilities. If not then it's something with the interface to mic and probably hardware related. If you have other mics that don't have the issue, then that narrows it down to hardware pretty quickly.

Ok sorry but can you explain this in easier terms? I'm not exactly an electronic expert, and I'm not really sure what you just said...

Kind of like hooking up a 4"+ firehose to the kitchen sink. The right components, but not well matched for anything useful. Can it be made to work... Kind of... Is it ideal??? No...

You might check the other little things first. Audacity is but one recording application. Does the mic exhibit the same issue with a different application? If not, then it's likely a software issue.

I downloaded another program(Kristal) and I still have the same problem. Can you think of any other solutionns, other than returning the mic?
